Texas Holdem Decisions

One of the first and most important things to help us making the good decisions is to focus on 3 Factors;


Our cards for me I try to stick to the rules playing strong starting hands however I know that some deviation is helpfull to take the biggest pots using some low suited cards kinda 2-4/3-5/6-7... suited is somehow tricky and ensures the best pots especially when players are tight and not too much agressive.:icon_stud


Our opponents Make sure to observe and analyze opponents behaviour without prejudices and without lacking respect to them (You should Respect every player) whatever he plays do not pretend you are better and do not underestimate a player who is playing garbage they could put you down and make you tilted play wisely and do not even try to bluff them.


Our Positions; It's one crucial factor in decision making since it's the primary tool to help us making a good decision since it allows us to collect the maximum informations aboy players involved in the action.

Everything is perfect according to books but sometimes I am on BB and I have 2 J and flop hits 2 J 7 and it lures me to be on top but in the end I loose..

The Money Situation

Cards, Opponents, and Position are all good factors. I would also add to that the money situation. The money situation is tough, because it has to take all aspects of the money into account.
* Your Stack Size
* The Blinds and Antes
* The Bet Amount
* Your Opponent's Stack Size
* The number of callers
* The size of the pot.

Obviously this is a massively complex concept, but here's a few tips I've picked up along the way.


The number of callers
Let's say someone opens a pot with 3BB and you have a marginal hand on the button thinking you're going to fold. But then 4 people call, each for 3 BB. Suddenly, you have a chance of risking 3 BB for potential win of 16.5 BB (don't forget blinds) + Ante's. Suddenly, the strength of your hand becomes much less relevant as the chance of what you could win vs. what you'd have to risk changes drastically. I'm not saying call with 72o, but definitely consider being more loose in this situation.

The Size of the Pot vs. The Bet Amount
Always be aware of the bet amount compared to the size of the pot. If the pot is 10 BBs and someone throws out 1 BB, odds are they're just hoping people will fold. Plus (assuming you have the chips to spare) who wouldn't want a 10:1 odds of winning (read into pot odds, it's some really interesting stuff). If someone bets 10 BB into a pot of 5 BB then is it really worth risking your chips for such a small pot?

Your opponents stack size vs. the bet amount
Let's take a 5 BB bet. That's enough to make marginal hands fold and strong hands call. But, let's say a huge stack made that bet. Well, they aren't risking much of their stack % wise. Compare that to a person with 20 BB who is willing to risk 25% of his stack on the bet. The "power" of a 5 BB bet changes drastically when you think about the stack size behind the bet.

Your Opponent's Stack Size vs. The Bet Amount
If your opponent is betting 5 BBs and it is 50% of his stack, be more cautious then a huge stack betting 5 BBs. The smaller is willing to risk a huge part of his stack meaning he must have a really strong hand, much stronger than the large stack throwing a few kitchen scraps into the pot.

NOTE: Be very careful when messing with a much larger stack size than yours.
However, when I have a chance to play against a larger stack size, I salivate at the opportunity. A larger stack size will want to bully you, but if you stick to good poker, you can catch them bullying you when you have the better hand. I see mismatched stack sizes as an opportunity to double-up, not a reason to be scared. Because I know they can only bully me if I'm playing poorly.

The Bet Amount vs. the Blinds and Antes
This is probably obvious to everyone, but I did have to learn a lesson or two before I realized this. Don't look at the bet amount as being big or small based on the amount. What's a bigger bet, 1000 or 10000? Well, it depends on the blinds actually. If the blinds are 100/200 then a 1000 bet is 5 BB. If the blinds are 1000/2000 then a 10000 bet is also 5 BB. The "Size" of the bet should be based on the number of big blinds it is, rather than the amount of the bet. Don't look at a 250000 bet as 250000, if the blinds are 25000/50000 then you're still only dealing with 5 BB. Get the number out of your head and focus on the number of BB it is and that will help you to continue to play "your game" even late in the tourney when blinds are going up and stack sizes are going down.
