OK vigaszag - Please describe where you live and what there is to do in your area. Also, where do you work and what do you do?

So here is a question or two that you can try answering. What poker sites do you play at? What level are you playing at? How long have you been playing. What poker games do you like playing the most? Last but far from the least. are you willing to do whatever it takes to REALLY be the player you want to be?

Hi vigazag. Would you like to see suggested corrections like the following? If so, post your sentences and I will try to do more of the same. I should point out that the way Canadians (like me) say things may be a bit different from the way they speak in the U.K.

(Great) Thank you guys!

(Punctuation) I know what I have to do. I already use the doulingo app.

(Grammar) I have been living in the U.K. for one year. (Note: for proper grammar, we usually write out smaller numbers in full, e.g., nine [not 9] or less)

(Perhaps you meant ...) I've learned many words from my workmates, but have to practice.

(Choice of words & punctuation) So if I make mistakes, please correct me.

That's what I'm talking about Matt. So exactly I've been living in U.K. two years and five months.
What is your profession? How old are you?

I hope you make it to the table that Negranu is playing at, and I hope when you get there you end up the last man standing. So you have 4 years experience playing the game. In those 4 years what is one thing you can think of that really helped you better you game. I have been playing 13 years and for the first 10 I played without knowing shit about the game. Wasted years, but for the last 3 I've put every thing into learning the game from only CC members. There is advice here that you can use and it really works. I like to say more times than I have to, but there is this little thing about it all that is kind of crazy. The real good players here will teach you what you need to beat them, but at the tables the same players will see quick if you learned anything at all. It's like swimming in the ocean, and when those sharks start circling you may get the idea they lied to you from the very start. LOL It's not a lie and they would not tell you a lie that at the tables they are not after your cash. For myself, I like to play with good players. Makes my game better just watching them make all kinds of moves that I can consider using myself. I'm done now GL to you

Hey there,
this might not be of much help (due to the fact that this might not be possible in your situation).

But you said you've learned some words from workmates while you were living in the U.K., that is actually the best way to learn a language (in my opinion),
learning it because everyone around you speaks it and because you can't really communicate without it. This kinda forces you to learn the language.

English isn't my native language either, all the english I know is from travelling around and having friends that don't speak my language (English is one of the easiest ways to communicate because its one of the most known and spread languages).

So living somewhere where people speak English would speed up the progress tremendously.

But seeing as that's not a viable solution for everyone.. I've heard of people who become "pen friends" (not sure if that is the correct English term for it) they just chat with each other and have the common interest of learning each others language.

(Example; I speak dutch and am interested in learning English, you speak English and are interested in learning dutch. Result; We teach each other our language.)

If you could find someone who is interested in your native language you could give this a try, pretty sure there are some sites for that purpose, as there seems to be a site for everything.

Anyway, hope this was of some help to you, good luck!

Greetz.

Also, this forum is a very good place to start now that I think about it, even this thread you made already serves its purpose!

Keep chatting with the people here, ask questions, answer things.
Learn new words and how to use them from people already using them,
ask about it when you don't understand something, etc.

When you make a sentence that has some errors in it, people will correct you and you will gain a bit of knowledge.

Maybe even add something like:

"I'm learning english and appreciate all help, please correct me if I make mistakes so I can learn from them, thank you!"

to your signature. That way whenever you post something, that will be at the bottom. :)

Click "User CP" in the left corner, then look under "Settings & Options",
the first link should say "Edit Signature".

A screen will open where you can edit/create your signature. :)
& no problem.

I mention TV shows since they show the language in daily usage, with slang etc. If you have a chance to watch shows with your mother tongue as subtitles, like on a DVD, it can be a tremendous help, as you can rewind and watch again when something catches your eye/ear.

There is no one way to learn anything. But, as long as you are trying it will all probably help. I speak fluent German and learnt it simply by watching TV, speaking to people and constantly asking "How would I say this?". I never had a course, but not because I think a course is a waste of time. As a matter of fact, a course is almost always a great thing to do. I just never had enough time in one place when I was first here to attend one.

Go out with people. Keep speaking and asking. Good luck.
