Hi forum!
This is my first post and my first thread.
So I want to know the opinion of the community about this subject, about start playing MTT, but applying Cash Games knowledge. It is a start or it's a whole new type of game?

Opinions.

The major difference between tournaments and cash games is that the blinds will go up at regular intervals in tournaments, which forces you to widen your range as you get deeper in the tournament if your stack isn't keeping up. Also, you have to weigh your tournament survival in addition to the typical odds calculations in both tournaments and cash games, what may always be a +EV decision in a cash game may be a poor decision in a tournament because in many cases you cannot buy more chips and keep going if you bust.

Learn shove fold/SS strat by going to SNG whiz/powertools and learning optimal ICM/Shove fold strat.

You're welcome.

Plus, keep in mind the NONLINEARITY of chip value....aka ICM...aka...tournament survival value vs. Chip EV.

Youre welcome.

You'll love how bad people are postflop.....most small stakes donkament players are terribad after the flop with chips behind.

If you're talking about relatively low levels of cash and MTTs, there are meaningful differences, but not enough for me to call it "a whole new ballgame". One key similarity is that your opponents will make plenty of poor and mediocre decisions, which means it's not very difficult to become a breakeven or winning player even before you learn much about things like ICM.

well since I hate cash games it's hard for me to say how to apply cash game principals. Tournaments are about stacks and getting them from your opponents. Since often, you can't buy a new a stack, the all in is a great weapon but used sparingly. Look for the weak players, rob them blind. I think it was Brunson that said "Don't go broke in a limped pot"
One carry over from the cash game will be hand reading skills. However since blinds increase, you're not really going to see many people with 100+ BBs. Generally I think 40-75 gives you full arsenal.
Biggest advice I can give you is don't play scared. Go with your gut instinct, your reads, and play your a game
