Hey guys, new to the forum and this is my first post, just looking for a bit of advice.
I play micro/low stakes online and for the most part, I do fairly well. My bankroll is either breaking even or increasing, not often do I drop below a comfortable bankroll for the stakes I play. By my reckoning, I'm doing well playing online.
I play TAG and do well against the LAG variety. Playing online isn't my issue though.
I've just finished playing my second home tournament and finished fifth out of seven. I knew that five of the other six players were loose/passive and loose/aggressive so decided to play tight and aggressive when I was holding a strong hand. This absolutely did not work for me. e.g. I'm on the button and every single player has limped. I'm holding AKs so decide that a big raise was in order. (We're all still deep stacked at this point). I raised 6xBB +1BB for every limper. Everyone called except the other tight player. At this point, I needed my AK to hit the flop hard. It didn't. The flop came 5,8,2 rainbow. The chances that five limpers hit this flop were ridiculous. UTG donked a 1/2 pot bet. CO raised. I fold. Everyone else called. At this point, I knew my hand was dead.
This happened for every strong starting hand I had including AA-TT and AK-AT. No amount of raising, re-raising or check-raising would get these people off of their cards. I checked, they checked. I bet, they call. Eventually I was getting sucked out on with draws on almost every hand I played, whether I checked down to the river or even if I bet it.
I noticed most of these players were limping with huge hands as well as terrible hands. The occasional raise and 3bet here and there.
These players knew I was TAG so I decided to try and take advantage of my image and loosen up for a few orbits. Also didn't work. No matter my holding, these players would not fold. (Except one time when I was short stacked with KQs and I shoved, everyone folded). Also worth noting, one player on the table said, "Poker is a game of luck, that's why I play every hand". This player was the chip leader for the most part which I found quite annoying.
How do I beat these players? We play for money and will do in the future but I really hate being sucked out on like this.
Sorry fornthe long post and I apologise if this is in the wrong section of the forum. Any answers and/or follow up questions are appreciated!

I don't have a response, but I must say that I am interested in any responses that people might have. What I am replying to say is that you shouldn't apologize for the lengthy post. The first reply to many posts on here is something along the lines of, "Can you give us more details?" The more information available, the more feedback you can get.

What kind of buy in are you talking about to enter your home game tourney? If it is a $10/$20 buy in and you have calling stations all around you, why raise when you know you are gonna get called.I would want to see a flop as cheap as I could.Flop a set,a sraight,a flush or 2 pair or whatever and then nail them.Raise your buy in to your home game tourneys to $70 or $100.

I'll give you a quote from David Sklansky's Theory of Poker.

You may occasionally be in a game where the best strategy is to win as many pots as possible, but such games are exceptions.

In most games the , bets you save are as important as the bets you win, because your real goal is to maximize you wins and minimize your losses.
Ideally, you want the pots you win to be as big as possible, and the pots you lose to contain nothing more then your ante.

You must remember that reducing losses-by not making the calls, for example, that a weaker player would make-adds much more to your win when the game is over.

Many players don't follow this precept, however obvious it may seem. They play as though they want to win the pot, an individual pot, at all costs. The worst of them, to put it bluntly, are suckers in the game.

On the other hand, a good player develops the patience to wait for the right situations to play a pot, and develops the discipline to release a hand he judges to be second best.

Thus, whether you are winning or losing on a given night is not in itself important, and above all it must not affect your play. It's easy to get steamed, or disgruntled, or discouraged, when your losing.

However, you must be disciplined enough to play every hand correctly, regardless of how you are doing.

Making money is the object of poker, and making money involves saving it on bad nights, as well as winning on good nights. So don't worry about quitting a loser. If your getting in with the best of it, you will win in the long run just as surely as a roulette wheel will win for the casino in the long run.

i don't really play any live games at home because i don't have a lot of people around me that plays poker. but i have played poker at the bars over in fort wayne, indiana. which is a 50 dollar free roll. but i mostly play online in free rolls. i have notice i can have a good hand either AA or KK or AK i raise before the flop and after the flop i mostly don't check.i will keep betting all the way down the river.my favorite hand either suited or not suited is Persian Carpet Ride which is a 7,9 and every time that i have played that i either hit trips boat straight and even a straight flush.but then i can not forget pocket rockets or cowboys and big slick.

You answered your own question. You are playing freerolls, there are no poker rules there, especially in the early stages of a tournament. Because you don`t risk nothing in freerolls. And all in with 3w7s it is norm for some players:D . That`s why we cann`t understand theirs game.

Thanks for all of your replies guys, they made for good reading and gave me enough information to happily go back to these games confident.
I figured it's gonna be a case of two things that I need to do - shove PF with the premium hands and secondly and maybe more importantly, ensure the table isn't deep stacked. I know I'll certainly feel a lot more comfortable than everyone else at the table if I'm short stacked and maybe these fish/donks will tighten up if they've got less chips to play with.
Probably also going to increase the buyin so they realise more is at stake.
Thanks again, it was a pleasure reading your responses. Good luck on the tables!
