I am considering stopping my cash play and switching to poker tournies. I figured this would help better manage my bank roll, allow me to play more hands to gain experience, and have that nice reward of a solid payout (Hopefully). Does anyone think that this is a bad decision?

I prefer tournaments,i think it offers a certain peace of mind. You pay to get in,then that's it!I feel like i'm always "paying" when i play cash poker (unless you're winning) and the feeling you get when you Win a Tourney is awesome! :star:

It's not a bad decision at all. It's just more about your preferences. Cash games are more of a slow grind to build up your stack. If you don't like being forced into action due to rising blinds/antes and you have many days/hours available, then cash games may be better for you. If you like the thrill of going for a big payout and the changing dynamics of tournament play and/or you don't have many hours/days available top play, then tournaments may be better. Personally, I fall into the latter group. If you are new to tournaments, you'll have to get a feel for how to adjust play as your stack size changes and you enter the different stages of the tournament. For me, it was a bit of shock just how different play is between a cash game and a tournament. Both of my tournament cashes involved super aggressive play with a short stack.

I think that really depends on you.

I still believe that cash is the better option for consistently making money, but some players can't handle the grind. They get bored and lose focus.

Tournaments are more exciting but can have more variance. You may find yourself in long periods without a cash. Just something else to consider.

Very interesting topic actually) I can't decide, because you want fast money) In a cash game it is possible to quickly snatch the money, and a sufficient to rise quickly, but you can very easily lose everything. Tournaments somehow more enjoyment from the game.

In general cash is a whole lot harder than tournaments. MTT's are more based on percentages and finding spots, exploiting ranges, etc. In cash there's a much more difficult mental side with bigger sharks, less luck involved because the match never ends. Good luck!

Hard to say, very situational.
it is depends on who you play against, so in general how is your edge in these two kind of games.

but personally I do think cash game is much flexible than tourney, and variance is much smaller.

good luck to you.

One factor here might be tilt factor? If you have a tendency to steam when playing poker...might be more profitable to play tourney...caps what you can lose. I know Bart Hanson is a huge advocate for just playing cash games since in the long run if your a winning player your hourly will almost always be higher when playing cash vs tourney.

I like to play MTT's over cash. It's just harder because of the time commitment associated with a deep run. Can play if you have something to do in 4 hours, because you never know...

Good to know what you like to play, try to play for the pleasure, if it feels that the game, the results come with time, devote only to study and see that will bring excellent results in any poker game.

Gotta do what you like, there is room for every style.

The only bad thing about a tourney is the amount of time that needs to be invested before one is in the money. If one has the 3 hours, then, that is not a worry.

That is one advantage sportsbetting has even over a cash game of poker. Cash game of poker, you need to be at the table to money, no such requirement in sportsbetting. You place a bet and don't even waste time watching the game.

You're definitely not going to play more hands in tourneys than in cash.

No at all in fact tournaments are better because you pay one buy in and not to worry about your bankroll.

I prefer tournaments ... cash is always difficult to isolate hands .... opponents always pay with anything ,,,

First off, it is not really going to be better for managing your bankroll... people go very long stretches without making a good score in a tournament. What you should do is play cash to supplement your roll for tournaments.
