styles of poker

i need some help with styles of poker..

when i first learned poker..i was taught what i later learned was short stack strategy..playing very few hands, playing only premium starting hands like AA KK QQ AK, etc. & playing them hard..

now i dont play @ the cash tables much..i play MTT & larger SNG..plus
a boatload of freerolls & k.o. tourneys..

Is there a better style of poker than SS for playing these larger field games?
because i dont play alot of hands i find myself constantly having my blinds stolen & getting blinded out of tournaments because of lack of good starting hands..oh yeah.. & occasionally getting too aggressive with starting hands trying to play SS strategy..
can any1 help a rookie out here/?

strategy

Playing the short-stack-strategy is completely ok for the earlier stages of any MTT.
In medium and late stages you might want to open your range (just a bit) if in position.
After antes have set in stealing some blinds or even pots will be necessary, too.

I play several different stylkes of poker.
All depending on my chip stack,the other players at the table,my position in the tourney or sng.
I especially like to trap a player or players in to key pots with me,instead of just pushing all in wand hoping for a call that holds up.

If one of your weakenesses not being able to steal/resteal or identify stealers. Also if you aren't very good at adjusting to high blind play.

I would recommend Sit & Go Strategy by Colin Moshman. I know that it isn't a MTT book but I found that a lot of his strategies translate directly into tournament play, especially if you have already done a lot of reading and studying of MTT play. Just and idea, also it isn't terribly long and has a lot of examples.

i suffer exactly the same problems while playing,im mainly stt and mtt freerolls etc never cash/ring games, it seems that if i dont double up early i get blinded out or seem to fold hands constantly ,other players seem to be in every pot using their stacks as weapons ,even if i have a big stack i seem to walk into better hands ,i play the cards as they come ,when loosening up i tend to limp in in late position with suited connecters or high cards but find myself in with tuff decisions up against raisers ,after folding i often see that i was pushed off pots with best hand ,ive read harrington on holdem 1 and it advises solid play ,but it never seems to pay off for me .how can i start to up my game and play with confidence

Earlier I played very passively, became more aggressive later, but the big successes manage to achieve at use of both tactics of game

Thanks for the input there guys ..im doing better now that i have loosened my starting range & i bluff/steal more ..i just find that my sense of timing is off..so when i try to steal i get caught or trapped with a monster..so i am working with play chips to steal & bluff untill i can become more confident in my timing and reads ..because if i stop learning i will never get better..thanks again

It seems for me at a certain point I have to open up and play more things but only on cheap pots.Sometimes those AA KK and other preimium hands dont come and its the 910 suited that wins you a big one.

Just be careful playing at the lowest level of play money, because the play is very bad. I think that you will find it very hard to steal blinds and bluff at play money tables and tournaments.

Playing a lot of pots requires much better post - flop play. Pre - flop the situation is moreless clear, but later reading players, correctly evaluating teh flop becomes crucial, otherwise others will simply outplay you. We all have had these situations when you get 72o, fold, and the flop comes 772 or 77A. But these are extremely rare, and it simply isnt worth chasing them.
Another thing to consider is how many chips you take when you get your premium hands. If everyone see you as rock solid AA - QQ only player, they will usually fold to your raises leaving you with small pot. But this won't help you to wait for another hand, they come not so often. Try to bluff sometimes, like raise as usual with A8+, and see what happens. Be aware of your table image, and try to use it to your advantage.
