Hey guys when first starting out poker, do you recommend studying more or playing more???

Alot of people say " Experience is the best tool of learning" but so many times during gameplay I'm very clueless and end up losing money.

Thank you.

Also, definitely will love to know on how you guys approach studying and then how you are applying it to your game.

Playing low limits is good way to learn some of the game, but you need to study a lot more in the beginning. CC has the strategy button at the top you can start there. Watch videos on you tube, get some poker books and read them, read anything you can find on the game. You will realize as you learn to play as a beginner you will have a lot of leaks in your game. It takes work and studying is part of it to become a better player. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!!!

Obviously I wouldn't jump into the highest stakes right away, but I'd say playing will always benefit you more than just reading...

Start with proper bankroll management so you can cut your losses and maximize your wins. Studying is never a bad idea. I, however, like to learn by making my mistakes. When you're playing with proper bankroll management you won't end up going broke while learning.

I think the best way to learn poker is playing it! But nevertheless studying is very important, too! I would recommend watching videos and reading poker articles. You have to find your own balance :)

Practice doesn’t necessarily make perfect. Only good practice makes perfect.

You can play the game over and over and not get any better. You need to be implementing things you’ve read about or learned away from the table. Study is just as important, if not more so, than playing. Especially for a newbie.

I would say do both in parallel. Maybe you would be watching tutorial videos and recall a hand you just played and realize that you played that hand well/bad. But definitely ahould learn the basics first before playing

Excellent question!

Experience is the best learning tool....oh, you already said that !

You can research-study those specific spots where you are "clueless". And then hopefully you encounter that situation again soon so that you can exercise your learning in real life.

And be aware that sometimes there are several different ways to play any specific hand.

But how to play your hand so that it maximizes your profit ?

Sometimes I learn a lot more between school lessons.

Good luck !

Study everyday and play every 2nd day would work well for starters. I think that in the begining you have so much small things to learn and understand that playing alot only keeps you from improving

Study. Then practice. Then make mistake and then you learn.

You can share your time and reconcile practice with theory!
Every 5 hours of play (don't have to be hours in a row, of course), you dedicate 1h to the study and 4h to the game!

Study, watch videos, review hand histories and play comfortable limits to allow yourself to practice and apply different strategies. Adjust as needed.

There are so many topics to study in poker that it can and should be done endlessly. And the best option is to study some topic, to fix it in practice-that is, to play for a few hours, paying attention to those aspects and rules of the game that I have just studied. And the benefits will be more, and less money will lose!

I have been playing for years and still study all the time. You have to remember it not always about studying from a book. I will go through my hand history looking for mistakes i made or things i could improve on and at time look over the hand show from players who have been giving me problems. I do put in 3-5 hours study time per week.

If you are a beginner then you surely need to play a lot. But this doesn't mean you don't have to study at all. It seems to me you should play and study both, 50% of the time you play and 50% study. When you get some experience then you'll be able to reduce the learning time, but nevertheless you need to learn something new every day. That's my point. Another players try to get better constantly why you should not? Of cause there're a lot of players who don't care of their game but they're mostly fishy players. If you want to win in this game you just have to be better than an average player at your stakes. And I think the best way to study is to replay and analise your own hands using HUD programs after every game session, to spot crucial hands and maybe to post them to poker forums for getting feedback from other players.

Both is the best way. Playing for money is different than the free rolls that are offered.

You should be doing both. Play a lot, but also review that play using whatever your favored software may be. Talk about weird spots on forums, watch streams, and even joining pay for training sites can all be valuable.

The biggest piece of advice I got (that worked) was to ONLY play when I feel good. Anything less than that, just play free games like Zynga poker or freerolls.
Study however, can be done at all times.
So study more than you play (for money).

Studying first is a good idea. Also learned the proper bankroll. I also end up in lossing money especially in higher stakes. But I make money at lower stakes. Maybe my problem is I dont manage well my bankroll.
