I was winning about 8 straight sessions then lost 1 huge one. I didn't even notice it, I was constantly getting ridiculously beaten for a whole hour (I actually saw one guy get 3 straight jacks in a row,)yet I managed to break even.
Next 30 min or so I lost a decent amount of money w/ alot of small pots, mainly because my hand selection has been poor and anyone against me ran like jesus. I still think that this game has less variance and easier to win money when tired of no limit. I haven't played this game long enough to judge it and my strategy is just basic.

Is any ccer's stud veterans? just throwing it out there.

Stud hi, the variance is going to be crazy. It might have less variance than NLHE, but its certainly got more than any other limit game. There's a reason why most stud regs grind Razz or Stud 8 rather than Stud Hi.

90+% of my serious ring play is stud hi, with very little variance, and is my constant source of building an online BR from -0-. I've only played Stud hi live since '69 and online since 2007 but it is my preferred game.

I may not be part of "most regs", but I tend to prefer stud hi over stud8 since I am never playing both ends, hi and lo. Strategies for stud and stud8 are quite different, imo.

I do agree with c9 that Stud hi is less variance than nlhe but would disagree that it has more variance than the other stud formats. Razz and Stud would be the most similar since they have the same objectives - the HI or the LO end of stud format ranges.

yea it has really little variance, you won't feel your losing unless you lose 20 straight pots betting out in a row w/c happened to me :( but thats very unlikely when you choose the hands you play wisely. Unlike omaha, you arent committing a big portion of your stack on a really good draw or hand.
