I love the game of poker and it would be a shame if I had to stop playing because I am unable to properly manage my bankrolls. Currently I have no expenses and the money I earn has no direct impact on my life, so that might contribute to why I just punt the money I earn from free rolls by putting all my money on the line. I am also very young so my responsibility is minimal, and I wanted to know if someone coming from a similar situation has managed to learn how to properly manage a bankroll. If not, are there ways to make your bankroll management better?

When I started playing a year and a bit ago on play money sites, I used to consistently blow my tiny play money bankroll, but I have gotten a lot better over time as I have switched to real money and my game has improved. There is so much more satisfaction in slowly building than wild swings which almost always results in being bust yet again. My personal bankroll rules are a bit complicated as I use a handmade excel file to track my results (I only play tournies), which can also tell me my average and maximum buyin, but as a standard rule for a moderately cautious bankroll management rule, this is what I would suggest...

Cash game: 40 - 50 buy ins minimum.

STT: 70 buyins minimum for reg speed, 100 for turbo and 150 for hyper. Spin and Gos need more like 200 buyins.

MTT: 150 buyins minimum for reg speed, 200 buyins for turbo and 250 for hyper and bubble rush. More caution should be taken with larger fields (>1000) and less with smaller fields (<200).

Of course, you can always take a few shots at higher buyin things, if you don't care so much about the money then you can be less cautious, and if you really don't want to lose it then you can be more conservative, but I think that these are pretty good guidelines... Hope this helps...

The solution is relatively simple. You need to manage your money better. You must decide a Win Limit and a Loss Limit before you sit down to play. Once either of these Limits are reached you stop playing.

To manage bank this art! I many times allowed one and a touch a mistake when played on big rates, having $700 and started games for $100 was in anger and fatigue... Result - zero. This terrible feeling of loss. So set the object, earned a day from $1 to 5 - stop and so on. (lost $5 - means, not your day). Games from $1 to $3 in case of $100, from $3 to 5 in case of $200. Money can really be earned, the main thing to constrain itself.
