I've stressed in poker no just from poker. Sometimes you get hit from the stress bug no matter what you do it's there. Do you play see how you do stop call it a day. Some times I get it so bad in private life it's so hard to beat the bug. I want to go up a level and I stress over that. I do meditate some times it does help.Any other tips on chilling pregame. Thanks

Stress can be a big detriment to your play, it's best to find something you can do to relax you before you play, because poker can add to your stress.

it can take a toll on you if you don't track it correctly. you should look into what causes you to stress. it could be something outside of poker, maybe job, friends, family, physical pain. It could be relationships, or even unhealthy dieting. Lately I been stressing myself, and I think mainly it was due to being lazy, and being to stubborn and not admitting that I needed to fix whatever it was that is making me lose. so i started playing less and just blocked myself from trying. I think I stress over on my results and really just blamed poker when in reality, I wasnt putting in the effort on practicing. I still get frustrated, but its important I start to acknowledge my effort because even though I had won before, I probably wasn't as good as I am now ..each player has a different way of practice and approach, look into mental endurance and setting goals, look forward to learning a new approach other than stress.

The solution is simple, do not play poker, read more books about poker, watch videos, added in forum hands for analysis.. With experience, you will not have stress..

Outside stress brought into poker is not good at all. Poker is already stressful enough as it is. Try getting into a routine before you start playing a session. Like meditate before hand and just get your mind tuned into poker before you even start playing. Avoid distractions t hat would make you think about the other stress in your life while playing poker. All in all though this is much easier said then done Good luck on the felt.

Funny I should run into this tread, because I don't know what to say here right now. I think it is because I'm in the freeroll club and I won't do enough to stay in it. And it is something I do everyday, so why should I let it stress me out? Also, I'm sitting here trying to figure out where I want to play a game today, and most of the time I'm already playing. But what's on my mind is that I'm going to lose, and I hate to lose. It just causes more stress. I been reading most of the day, and it has helped some. I guess there are days when I stress more than others and I don't know what to do with myself. I really think it's stupid of me to be like this.

Indeed poker is already stressful enough, But it does pay off though.. you can progress far from playing poker, and it can adapt to changing peoples lifestyle. Sometimes bad, and sometimes good. It just takes a ton of effort, and commitment . Especially if you want to become so good, to attain stability, you gotta endure that extra mile. No time to stress, just brush off your shoulders and keep moving.

Stress is not good man. You got to know what is it that makes you stressed. Making touch decisions can be one so try not to overthink too much. Maybe you're also stressed in life and it goes into your game as well. Im nt sure about this just saying. Maybe you should take a break from poker and see.

I think what you are missing is the enjoyment of playing poker. Take some time out to do other things, I did for 15 months.
As others have said read more, watch learning videos and games. See where it is that you are making mistakes. If you feel you are going to loose before you start, there is no point in playing because you are already stressed out before you start.

Play play play, is how I got over the bad beats stress, my own mistakes stress, and whatever other stresses that poker may induce. It is just like life. If you stressed every time you tripped and fell, you would probably be more damaged as the fall itself. The more you fell, the better you landed. At the end it is almost embarressed to fall. Same as poker, you end up making less mistakes, catching yourself, and the bad beats become a nature of the game. Sounds easy right. Haha, it is´nt. Took a lot of hands to get such an attitude. :tee:

Sometime today or tomorrow I'm going to play in a $1000 GTD at Carbon and that will be the biggest tourny I have played in for a long time. And I looked yesterday and there was over 500 players. So to say the least, I will be stressed out during that. But I have to start somewhere to get a BR started there.

I heard a lot of people talking the same as you. Paranoia came when players are overdosed with the bed beats and software traps. I know lot of players who fold even pair of Aces when someone push all in against them on Sit'N'Go tournaments. If is not necessary to play, they will avoid showdown. Especially
in the cases where they already win a first all in with the Aces (on the same tournament).

I must say when such behaviors happen, like paranoia. I have experienced paranoia from other habits, it is time to quit my friend. My paranoia affected my whole household and those who were close to me. Almost ran away from them all so before that happens play another card game for subsitution. Or read or anything. Nothing is worse that allowing a habit destroy you.

Vacation from poker is the best way to relieve the stress. Also, controling your tilt helps as well.

Hi Rawdeal.

I think Zayzoo speaks alot of sense here. I also think that the best way to avoid stress is to find a regime which helps you eliminate the stress falling your way. To do this I tend to plan what I am going to do, when i'm going to play and try to eliminate all outside pressures. This can be anything from picking the kids up from school - to what time you have to go to work or even when your going to eat. If you plan all these sort of outside distractions when you sit down to play your mind can be totally concentrated on just that. If you are feeling stress because of your game play then the only thing you can do is CHANGE IT. This can be done by various learning techniques and only you can decide which is best for you. I would recommend you read a couple of books by Jared Tendler. These being the mental game if poker books 1 & 2. I don't know if we can recommend books on here but give em a try they really helped me. GL to you and hope to read about your successes on here in the future.

I used to get very stressed and wound up when I played poker. Then in 2008 I had a heart attack, luckily I had it in hospital or I wouldn't be writing this.
After that I still love poker but if I win I win, if I love I lose, I have learnt that poker is something to be enjoyed, not stressed over.
I always make sure I don't play with money I can't afford to lose.
These days it is life that makes me stressed, poker is for enjoyment and for using the few brain cells I have got left. :D:D

Do you know the solution of your problem? quit poker for a while, start up a business, make it successful, then you come back playing poker. Playing poker without any targets and pressure is the best thing to do.
