This is a discussion on strategy or stupidity? within the online poker forums, in the Learning Poker section; playing tight in tournaments, i dont think i'm playing too tight and i even make some steals but i almost always end up short stacked
playing tight in tournaments, i dont think i'm playing too tight and i even make some steals but i almost always end up short stacked against everyone else at the final table... i can't tell if i'm playing too tight or if everyone who makes it there either got lucky or are complete donkeys.
what am i doing wrong?

Congrats on making it to the Final Table, unsure if you're asking for feedback specific to your play (then more info is needed as suggested by ukaliks); if it's just general Final Table strategy you're requesting, than check out:
Are you talking about SNG's or MTT's? If you are making the final table in large fields congrats! The hardest thing for me to learn and be somewhat decent amount was stealing during the middle of the tournament leading up to the payout bubble. Getting away from the it's better to cash than go out mentality helps you to get a lot of chips if you make it deeper into the tournament.

re: Poker & strategy or stupidity?
Accumulation of chips should be your main goal, and the safest way to do that is in small amounts, AKA stealing the blinds.
Survivng is very important and I wouldn't turn into to much of a kamikaze, cause you are still ending up at the Ft which is an accomplishment by itself.

make you raise sizes smaller and raise more often. but you need to be competant postflop in order for this to be succesful, if your not so good postflop, your better off to play big bet poker instead of small ball..
