I'm the type of rebuy player that never rebuys unless its a big time tournament with something really worth it on the line. Personally If you plan to rebuy 5x automatically than be prepared to play to win, if your not making that final table all those rebuys will start to add up on you.
In the tourney I played today, I seen a real good tournament player, this was the first time I actually played with him goes by the name of "Daprovider", well known on the network. Whenever I see these type of players I always make sure to note how they accumulate chips so fast. Now the literature on rebuys basically states to do what everyone else just told you to do.
he would rebuy and try to win hands at all costs, one hand he raised with 55s big a tight player bet into him and he instantly reraised all in, he quickly lost that stack. He continued to rebuy, and if he hit any part of that flop he would go all in, in this particular tourney in didnt work. What ended up happening was he never doubled up he went to the first break where rebuys ended he got his last add on ended up playing tight and was pretty much card dead, and that image he created never got to pay off for him in that tourney and he bought easily more than 8-10 times x 20 + 2. Now his roll is probably good considering his tournament finishes. If you don't play cash games tho to back these type of tournament swings you could really dent your
bankroll fast.
Maybe i'm talking a little over your head. But in respect to your bankroll if your bankroll is say 50 and you plan to do $1 rebuys, I don't think you should continue to go hog wild if its not working out just for the sake of your bankroll. My advice is when you get in, get in to pots with draws where you can scoop the whole pot such as opened straight draws in big hands, flush draws in big hands. Be aggressive preflop, even value reraise preflop with hands like qj suited to entice people to get involved in a big hand. Race prelop with pairs and hands like AK, and Personally don't just go all in every chance you get. This will save you some rebuys
Example, if you have a 4G stack and you have a draw, try to outplay the people (especially one person in a heads up pot post flop) to take down the pot by raising/check raising bets on all 3 streets controlling the action and
bluffing if you miss on the river but not going all in. That way instead of losing 4,000 chips, you'll lose say 2000 chips and you'll save your self 1 extra rebuy dollar there, and thats not to say you may not get a better hand to fold on the river. But if you just shove on the flop and someone has top pair to that draw your gonna get called, some would say thats what you want, I say thats not what you want because you want to minimize that amount of rebuys you use in that first hr if you can. Theres nothing wrong with shoving I'm just saying minimize losses, because the anecdote I stated above shows this strategy; yeah its good, but it doesn't ALWAYS work. especially if your card dead after the break and you didn't double up your essentially back to square one.
Also be aware of those who are also utilizing the same strategy as you because without question you won't be the only one wilding out. If I were you I would wait to hit say top pair on these players and maybe go all in because these players may very well go all in with no where near the best of it. So I say play super loose if your gonna use this strategy with all the other players, but somewhat tighten up against the players using the same strategy as you, because your not going to be out playing them because they're capable of going all in over any bet you make
and like Vanquish said, if you ain't gonna play to win after that first break, I say don't even waste your time utilizing that rebuy strategy, because that is a strategy built to get you chips to lean on the table with after the first break. Personally, I don't think rebuying is mandatory, yeah its definitely going to help, but you can still do good by playing tight in that first hour without going rebuy crazy. Don't forget nothing can stop you from being card dead
