Hey gang...

During a break from playing microstakes NLH, I started playing a few hands of PLO. I still used the basic strategy of NLH (cards, position etc) and didn't get my head bashed in too badly. Aside from getting drawn out virtually every hand, I'm really enjoying the game.

Here's a few questions for guys

1. What books/videos do you suggest I read on the game?
2. What should my BR requirements be when I decide to play a session?
3. When playing online, I've noticed that alot folks do an obscene amount of raising preflop. Is this normal? Or is this just folks who have no idea how the game is played and simply want to gamble cheaply?

Haha I thought this said 'Starting to Like PO' at first :D

Anyway, as you've said you should read up cos you want to get away from the Holdem model – it's very different

I would suggest Big Play Strategy (and then the later books) by Jeff Hwang.
These are great books

I'm no expert on the cash BRM requirements but the variance is higher than for cash so I would allow more buy-ins

The crazy raising that you see at very low stakes cash are either real fish/gambling types who have no idea what they are doing or the regs who are re-raising them all-in with very good holdings to exploit the fish's calling tendencies.

The crazy raising is more of an annoyance than anything. Guys raising 20X from the big blind is just plain stupid in my opinion. I've read in other forums that Hwang's strategy is more on the nitty side of things and that's fine with me until I get a firm grasp on what I'm doing. As far as BRM goes, I give myself 1-3 buy-ins before ending the session. Between that and the variance of the game, that should keep me from going overboard to recover my loses.

Just think "Tight is right"

Are you playing 6mx or FR? I can't play FR on Carbon as there are no tables ever. At least when I look. I can find some PLO8 FR tables. But for PLO, you are looking at 6max and those guys are freaking nuts! Be prepared for a lot of flopped sets trying to fill up as well.

Have fun!

Right now I'm playing both (6 max and Full Ring) on ACR (America's Cardroom). Yeah every time I play, it turns into an all-in shootout until those folks eventually bust out and go find something else better to do.

There are always games going to like us more than others, depronto already learned and burned interest playing Holdem, I think it is good to look different modes and you focus on that you like and you can also earn more money, or at least become less routine.
