To become professional you should study and practice poker for 25 h/day). There is a shard of truth in every joke.

in my opinion you should play and study as much as possible, as long as you're not overdoing it to the point where it affects your work.

It's been said you can study and play all day everyday and not become a pro.

However I'll be optimistic and say that when you play and study especially when you study you need to find the correct way to do it. By that I mean finding out which hands to go over by marking them and stuff like that. Cause it should be impossible to go over every hand you play.

It all depends of a mind. Someone needs one hour a day and in a mouth he tears in peaces all. Another may play almost 10 years with computer and then learn poker on-line anew.

I think you could ask the same question and get the same answer such as "How many hours per day should I practice to become a professional hockey (or baseball or basketball) player.
You have to evaluate as you go along, look at the competition, look at how your skills are improving, and then make the decision to continue or not.
To become a professional (in any endevour), I believe you would need to totally dedicate yourself. This means treating it like a job (PLUS) and be willing to devote 50+ hours per week, in learning, practicing (ie playing poker) and competing (move up in stakes once in a while to see the more experienced players)

2 hours of the game, and 2 hours of theory, analysis and handling of hands.

Random question....

How many professional poker players actually set out to be professionals - doing nothing but playing poker from an early age?

How many of them had a 'day job' and played poker on the side, but eventually progressed to the point where they could quit their day job and survive on their poker earnings?

A lot actually set out to be professional from a young age -- and by that I mean they dropped out of college to go pro because they were making so much from it. However, more probably did have another real job/career path that they left when poker brought them comfortable wages. Most of the young kids did set out from an early age -- and that's a lot of the high stakes players today.

The best way I think is to have patience, a little bit of luck, and to study as you play and play as you study!

80% play 20% study. It takes 10,000 hours to master a skill, thats a little more then 9 hours a day for 3 years but life doesn't guarantee anything

It seems for me, that it is a rhetorical question. The most important, imho, is to have aspiration and to move confident steps to the victory. And of course to think more & more :) On the one hand, poker is a game and a lot of things depend on good luck, but, on the other hand, elaboration of own strategy, calculations and unpredictability are capable to improve results

How many hours a day should study and practice poker to become a professional?

It's not the hours, and the man and his purpose. Create one yourself your schedule, set a specific goal and go for it. More practice and analysis. Try to find a good teacher, it will speed up your way at times.
