Starting from the basics
After playing for over 1 year I have realized that I haven't improved at all for the past 6+ months.
I eventually want to play 180 man sit and go's on pokerstars
. Since they start from 2.50$ I'd need a 500$ BR so I hope to start at the 25c 90's and then grind up to 500$ which would be the goal for this year. To grind 500$ from 50$.
What I find my main weaknesses are in these games is final table play. I have played around 100 45 and 90man sng's and I have only won the first one I have played. I have been in the final table many times however I always try to bully the short stacks and end up losing a hand or two which causes me to become the short stack. I have also played 3x 180man sng's in my life and I also won the first 180 I ever played. It was a 1$ hyper turbo which paid 50$ to the winner (I have to admit this is my biggest tournament win since I started playing poker which was last year. Kind of sad. I had 2 or 3 100$ and 200$ pots in hu cash before)
I know it's a lot to ask but I'd be grateful if anyone could list the things that a player needs to learn in order to become successful in poker. By this I mean for example:
- Hand reading
- Pot odds
- Implied odds
- Expected value
- Early stage tournament play
etc. This is only a few examples and I know there are many more. It would simplify things a lot for me.
Also what are in your opinion, the best ways to study ?
I often find myself reading a strategy post in this forum and while reading I end up thinking e.g. what I will do this evening. I find it easier to learn from videos as you can see the theory put to work but I know you can learn more from reading however I was never a good reader. Although I always had the best grades in school the only book that I read in my life is crushing the microstakes by blackrain and I have already forgotten most of it.
By the way do you think these games are profitable? Are they worth playing or should I go with 90man knockouts or maybe normal multi table tournaments with fields of 500+ ?
There are a lot of things to learn in poker and I just don't know where to start.
One other leak I have found in my tournament play is when I am playing vs a short stack I usually go all in with top pair weak kicker or a combo draw. I am talking about when I am deep stacked e.g. 2x over tournament average and villain is <10bb deep.
On the other hand when I face people with a similar stack to mine I often get scared away by them. That's right. I am agressive but when villain shows strength I fold right away. I know it is player dependent but what can you do if villain calls a 15xbb 3bet pre and calls 70% flop cbet then an all in on the turn with a flush draw and gets there on the river to beat my set. I feel like it's hard to put anyone on a range online because a lot of the people are just gambling.
