I watched the durrrr million dollar challenge against ziigmund, and a hand came up where I thought it should have been a split pot, but ziigmund was 100%. Galfond mentioned something about using 2 cards of your hand, so I guess even though there was a Jack on the board, his 10 still came into play.

YouTube - (8/10) Million Dollar Challenge Episode 7 with Durrrr vs Ziigmund S01E07 Full Tilt HD HQ NEW 2010

somewhere around 7:40. In hold 'em it would be a split, but in omaha I guess the rules are a bit different.

In PLO: 2 out of 4 hole cards must be used with 3 of the community cards to make your best 5 card hand.
Durrr's hand: [Ad] [Ah] [7c] [7d] [8d]
Ziigmund's hand: [As] [Ah] [7c] [7d] [10d]

Hmm, I didn't know that. I'm pretty sure most hold 'em players aspiring to play omaha don't either.

EDIT: So that would mean that if there are Quads on the board and you have pocket AA's, you have the nuts?

Yes...again, you must use 2 hole cards and 3 board cards.

Depends on the other card on deck. For example if the board is QQQQK then someone holding KK would have the nuts. Because they can make a boat of Kings over Queens. If you had AA with that board you would only have a boat with Queens over Aces. Most important thing to remember though is that you MUST use two and only two from your hole cards.

Yeah, it was a more general question. But that is very interesting. I've never read any rules for omaha, I just started playing it and this got my attention.

Are there any other subtle differences like that where a hold 'em player might slip up?
