Check out this image

I was playing this when the result was saying my opponent had an ace-ten .. But I'm not sure what it was talking about as he was holding a queen and a seven.

I'm new to poker and trying to learn, don't worries this was pretend money. HA

When the message appears saying "Ten to Ace" it means that your opponent has a straight (Ten to Ace):10h4: :jh4: :qd4: :kc4: :ad4: ie an upper hand is that its just a pair of kings.

By the way, he had a Queen-five :D

Cheers
Sorry this may sound silly but that's what I still don't get. What exactly is a ten to ace and why does it say the opponent has the ten to ace? Is it because he has the dealer button as I thought the king was better than a queen.

Can a ace to ten not happen if an ace and a ten is not present? Just seems mad that the 10 and ace were drawn up and non of us had it yet the opponent won

10 - A is a straight...

Meaning his best 5 card hand is 10-J-Q-K-A

Your best 5 card hand is a pair of Kings with a low kicker card.

Poker Hand Rankings:
1st - Royal Flush (10-A same suit)
2nd - Straight Flush (5 cards in a row of the same suit)
3rd - Four of a kind (4 of the same card)
4th - Full House (3 of one card, 2 of another)
5th - Straight (5 cards in a row)
6th - Three of a kind (3 of the same card)
7th - 2 Pair
8th - 1 Pair
9th - High Card

Hopefully this helps you out! Good luck at the tables :)

Oh I see so because the king and ace was present because he had the queen this fit as a straight flush as the same suit? Therefore in an opposite scenario if the king wasn't drawn out and the queen was, due to me having the king it would have fitted a straight flush... Am I following?
Cheers for the help

NO, There is no straight flush and no if Q comes out you you have a Straight only
Remember all players have the opportunity to use any and all 5 community cards and their own 2 cards. So you make your best hand from 7 cards
so villain has a Straight 10-Ace(which is of any suit)
you have a pair of Ks
You need 5 cards of same suit to make a flush
and 5 consecutive cards of same suit to make a straight flush

A kicker is the high card that isn't paired for example I have AK and flop is A-6-3 rainbow (different suits) I make a pair of aces with my King kicker.

So another example my AK v AQ and the flop is the same A-6-3 we both make top pair but I win with my king kicker and op has second best kicker with the queen :)
