So what's worse, the weak A or the light call?

I was playing a S&G late last night. After my trip Kings ran into Aces full, I found myself with less the three big blinds. I managed to battle back to 14 big blinds, but soon found myself sitting on less than 9x BB. I'm dealt A-4. But with a 4x raise in front of me, I figure I'm dominated and lay it down. I catch A-3 off, but can't bring myself to pull the trigger with it. 2 hands later, UTG, I'm dealt A-3 off again. I glance at the tourney lobby and see blinds will increase in less than a minute. Oh well, I'm all-in. Someone calls me with 9-10 off. After all five cards have been dealt, niether of us has hit anything and I take the pot down with A high. This, of course, is followed by the inevitable "lol, ace rag, what donk". This is the time I usually remind people of what Superchicken used to frequent say to his sidekick, "Fred, you knew the job was dangerous when you took it".

Now, I'm not of fan of pre-flop shoves outside of being under ten big blinds, unless I'm holding a monster pair in a pot that has been raised, reraised, and probably 4-bet. Nor am I fond of playing A-Rag hands. But what else could I do, sit there waiting for pocket Ks while I get blinded off?

So here is the question I'm asking you, or asking you to ask yourself, since I already know what the answer is for me...

What's worse, the all in shove with a weak A, or the call for 2/3 of your stack with 9-10 offsuit?

well u had less than 10bb, so shoving any 2 in the right position is correct. your opponent who called of 2/3 of his stack with 9To is atrocious. obviously a losing player and is deluded to thinking his play is correct.

Your opponent's call was by far the worse play of the two. Don't mind the resentful comments people may throw at you after a marginal shove works out in your favor; they're generally indicative of less skilled players. That said, how many players were at the table when you shoved A3? If you were going to shove A3, it would have been better do so the first time it was dealt to you, since you were in a better (later) position. But yes, with your stack size at that point, shoving was pretty much your only option if you were going to play it at all.

There were 4 players left at that point. We were actually on the bubble, which makes me wonder even more, why risk so much of your stack with a light call. Even with a bigger stack, I would be hesitant to risk chipping up the shortstack at that point.

The call was worse, but the question isn't particularly relevant. No matter who made the worse play, what does it really matter? So what if he made a bad play then called you a donk?

lol, don't even worry about the guy who said that.

I mean..words can't even describe how stupid he looks for even saying that yet snapping off with 9T.

Of course his call was beyond bad, your shove was standard..nothing more.

GG, ignore him.
