Focus on whatever your best at. If your a cash player, study cash. If you are a tourney player study tournies. The community here will always be willing to help when you have questions, so ask away

Poker is so cool in that there are a bajillion different ways to play and all of em work sometimes. I play tournies and I try to not play one way all the time, I would say unpredictability is key to winning. Learn about different styles so you can recognize them then try and make your own style. Warning, I am still a fish so it's just a thought. Good luck.

The game has changed, but it's not as if it's the same at micros as it is at nosebleeds. So not all information is equally valuable. For example, something like combinatorics factors into high stakes much more than it does into small and micro-stakes.

Nothing beats experience. Play lots of small buy in MTTs or micro-limit cash games to get some experience under your belt and then work from there. One thing that can affect you when learning is information overload. Repetition is the best method for long term retention.

Learn a few concepts at a time, its no good reading everything at once and trying to impliment it into your game. Try to become competent at the basics, no good fancy playing at the micros for the most part, learn a solid basic game then branch out.

For example you could start of learning about positional play and hand strength in the positions, why should you raise a certain hand later and not earlier in a game or position etc. Once you have a good idea about that move on to a deeper concept- this is just an idea not saying to start of there.

Have a decent play to study ratio, reading about stuff is great but at some point you have to try it out.

Remember that people learn different ways, some people learn by reading, some by watching, some by doing, try out some different ways of learning, books, vids, audiobooks and see what one you are (most people fall into one of those ways of learning)

If I could do it again I would get more involved in forum strat and ask questions that may seem stupid, I did not do that and I am still stupid!
