I see you can sit a tournament out for a couple of minutes, to go tot the bathroom or something. But can you use a sit out, to be in the game longer. And to end on a higher place in the tournament? Do you use sit out only for pausing or is it part of the game?

If you are very close to the paid spots.. and you think the prize is big enough you can sit out if the blinds dont eat you alive :pcguru:

Always try to reach the prizes. Sometimes you get distracted and then I just can't roll the game.

If I'm playing a step 1 tournament on 888 I'll sit out after I reach the 6,000 chip mark, by that point I don't need to play anymore to get the next step ticket

When you sit out you still have to pay blinds but you wont be able to play any hands, in general this is definitely -EV unless you really really need the break.

I'm not glad that people are sitting out for a long time during freerolls, because I don't have the full information I want to have for preflop decissions. Today I was sitting out during a super late freeroll stage because I was the biggest stack and I was twice bigger then the second stack.

I've seen it done near the bubble. It can ensure you make the money, but you'll give away so many chips it affects your ability to go deep in the money. I only sit out when I have to. I enter tournaments to play poker, not min cash.

Playing tight is more optimal than just sitting out

the only good thing about sitting out is when you are the BB with monster cards. And the SB just wants to still the blinds of the BB(who is sitting out) by going all-in and you sneakly call

This tactic is the place to be, even among professionals, but it should be used on time and with a cool head!:)

My thoughts exactly, there's no point in sitting out. Unless you have to do something else real quick ofcourse.

Btw maybe to clarify some things for OP:
When sitting out in a tournament you still pay the blinds and antes. So there is no real difference between sitting out and folding every single hand (arguably it is even worse since sitting out insta-folds which takes no time at all and in that way lets you blind out faster).

When it goes, it's necessary to get up from all the tables and take a break.

I only sit out if necessary. Otherwise, why even play if ya, cant stay close to the game. Imagine that ya got AA, as ya, sat out. knowing, ya could had increased your stack size....
Imagine watching the wsop, an see guys leave the table to sit out... Wont happen, cuz only a coward or an inexperienced player would do that, in my opinion... Unless, it necessary, plan to man up an play the game. Or find a book to read...

I do not sit out on purpose but sometimes get too many tables going and end up missing a hand or two at one of them. Don't win many pots if you sit out and probably not the best strategy to deal with money bubble spots as you may make the money but you will have nothing left to ladder into higher paying spots.
