Well after getting bored playing bots I went looking for a site where you can play real people.

Any recommendations on good sites for practising?

Thanks.

I tried Zynga.

Are they all real people or some bots?

Some of the players seem to play kinda crazy like going all-in every few hands so the bets go from $100 to $10,000

I get the feeling they are not too worried about losing everything.

The problem with play money is they aren't going to be worried about losing everything. It is just the way it goes. You have to play for something of value. Still better than play money against bots.

My son and his cousins play for pennies, but it is still something that has some value. We also keep track and have a leaderboard of how much people are up down. That's also a motivating factor, pride is valuable to some people.

^That is true I guess.

Now I am just sticking to practising my game and if there are silly raises I just fold.

Only problem I find is the time limit. I am not sure exactly how long it is but I guess maybe 15 seconds.

I want to practise estimating the pot odds. draw odds, opponents range etc.

But just to drive the buttons correctly to do a raise takes about 10 seconds. leaving me 5 seconds for my calculations which is... not quite enough :)

Would be great if they had a slower clock option for beginners.

My best advice to you would be keeping your raise around 3x. So if someone open raises to 100, you 3 bet(re- raise) to 300 would be about standard raise;) and so on...

Its true that calculating matts is kinda hard with the limited Time they give but practice it through hands you have already played + it allows you to find mistakes in your play while practicing

I think the time limit is about 15 seconds.

But in a live game I understand that players will often ponder for up to a minute before making a decision.

In tournaments I understand there is a 90 second optional time limit that a player can be forced to play within if an opponent chooses to enforce.

Seems strange that the online betting sites have such a short time limit.

Are there any sites where the time limit is longer like a minute or so?

With so little time to think it makes the game so much more about luck than strategy it seems to me.

Well I found that Zynga actually has a default FAST setting and you can change it to NORMAL which is about 25 seconds.

That extra 10 seconds makes a huge difference.

What is tipping the dealer about?

It is not real money and the dealer is a computer server.

Try BCP....
It has less players. And it will give you, more practice in later finishing positions... Which means, possibly more cash...
They have a Jackpot tournament, that pays off much more people. Even though it has a smaller pay-out, the experience helps for a beginner....

Why not just play all the freerolls? I think they are much better than play money and you can build your bankroll without risk.

Zynga Experience

Yeah, I've noticed that I've had to shuffle around until I find a table where people on Zynga are playing "realistic". Even in the "Sit & Go" tournaments, people go all in with nothing and bust out. I just sit back and let them clear themselves out. Pretty much a waste of time, but I've found some games where everyone seemed to be playing as they would in real life. It took me a little while to figure out that those crazy players didn't play long.

But, it's free. I've played at some Freeroll tournaments at local bars that have the same type of people. All-In blind. Oh well! Just building up my Tilt-defenses!!

^^I have been playing Zynga for a week. It is good for practising. You do sometimes get 1 or 2 crazies going all in pre-flop but I think 90% of the players are playing realistically.

I seem to see the same characters at my table quite often. Surprising since I thought there must be a lot of players.

^I read the freeroll is a tournament where there is no cost to enter but you can still win money? Is that right?

Exactly. In your case that's the best way to practise, I think.

I play at SB. They have lots of free rolls... If I were you, I would check out the Knockout games... They are so much fun. Ya knock out a player, you get their knockout fee... Last night, I did knockout 8 players for $12.00... And won at 7th place on a $500. Knockout game...
SB is a good site. Check it out...

pokerstars, 888, betsafe, partypoker. you have to go to sites which has meny freerolls. there you could practice and win some money. when you win some money you could go play some cash games or play tournaments with small buyins. thats my advise, because not real money isnt real poker.

^Thanks Muunas, I will give them a try.

Having fun on Zynga just now. The maniacs betting irrationally are quite easy to take down. Just play tight and reel them in with a big hand.

Strange how these sites all require you to install an application. Zynga, BlackChip, etc.

You would think a poker App could easily run inside a browser.
