What is a good strategy for sit and go double up games? It seems like all there is to do is to wait for a good hand hope you double up.

Play very tight and play as few hands as possible, let the others take all the risk's. They can be very dull to play though.

avoid playing them, they are so boring and it wont be very profitable in the long run, if you decide to play these stt, play tight only with good and premium hands and play many of them, so you wont get very bored.

i think tight agressive, don´t play speculative hands, don´t call any player raising if is a tight player, shove everytime a player raises and you have a monster, is quite simple, don´t try to bluff or be tricky, play straight with basics and you will get profitable resuls in the long run, don´t shove with hands like 77 or 88 because sometimes 2 or 3 players pay and have hands like A-8 or K-9 and you will be behind most of the time, so yes it could be boring since there is no smart poker just standard playing with a very basic game

do you mean the double or nothing sng ? the trick there is to build steadily and play a decent amount of hands, not too much though. ending the tournament with almost the double of your start should be fine

If it 1.10 then tight is always right but if its higher stakes like 10.1 then your gonna need to mix up your strat.

I struggled with $1.10 DoN's for a while but I'm starting to get the hang of them, some of the things I've learned with these are:

1. Watch out for calling stations and don't try to steal blinds against them without a strong hand. In the beginning stages there will be at least a couple of these who will pay any amount to chase draws, value bet the hell out of them if you get one hooked. In fact, in the beginning don't bother blind stealing at all, it's not worth the few chips you might pick up. If you get a strong hand, play it, and fold everything else. I often see somebody raise 3x or more in EP early on and get 4-5 callers.

2. Avoid tangling with big stacks at all especially if they are the calling stations, unless you have a super premium hand it's not worth the risk.

3. Always keep an eye on stack sizes, because it's important in a different way than with regular STT's. Folding AA on the bubble is ok if you have to go up against a big stack, when you have enough chips to cash already. I often see people with mid-sized stacks on the bubble get into all-in wars with top pair, when there are one or more much smaller stacks on the verge of busting out.

4. There will generally be 3-4 players (in 10-max) who play almost no hands, these are good to steal blinds from but be very careful if they play back at you, you're almost always way behind if they do.

5. Watch out for high-blind limpers in early position on the bubble, I see these show up with AA/KK a lot when a short stack shoves.

6. I don't like to call all-in's for most or all of my chips with hands like AQ/AJ unless I am short and was going to shove anyway no matter what. Especially if it's a tight player that shoved, you're either dominated or flipping.

These can be boring, but as a rookie I find them to be good exercise in the basics.

I try to limp much as possible, and i mean less than 2 BBs, otherwise i simply fold unless I have something really good like a big pair, or AK. I play that kind of SnG really solid, avoiding troubles and big decisions because you basically need one big hit to get to the money, so you just have to be patience and wait for it.

Can anyone explain this payout for a DoN?

pokerstars Tournament #837913221, No Limit Hold'em
Buy-In: $6.60/$0.40 USD
10 players
Total Prize Pool: $66.00 USD
Tournament started 2013/12/23 22:38:04 ET

Dear killer3333,

You finished the tournament in 1st place. A USD 18.05 award has been credited to your real money account.

I don't remember there being any bounties or anything like that.

This looks like a Fifty50 sng - half the field get paid, the more chips you have, the more money you get. So, in essence, there is something like bounties involved

They are a fair bit different from double or nothing games. I started off playing these like DoNs and realised that being that tight is very -EV in these games.

In my opinion the best strategy for double ups is play all kind of hands in the beginning while the blinds are still low and hopefully you hit a nice flop and double up. You don't want to play tight, trust me. When the blinds increase you would want a nice stack so you can wait for a nice hand and that's when people start going all in with bullshit hands and that's when you destroy them. That's how you win.
Especially with a lot of bad players you can see some really cheap flops in the beginning and build a nice stack.

sit tight and wait for blinds is what people usually do. It allows you to put more pressure when blinds get bigger. your opponent would more likely fold against a a small raise with less premium hands vs early stages they would more likely call with a wider ranges of hands.
