Hello All,

I started with $15 3 days ago. I'm playing $1.50 9 Man SnGs. I've played 173 of these and my bankroll is now $42.

I'm just wondering, when should I go to the $3.50s? I was thinking at $105...

I heard one time from a pro that, "you should never spend more that 10% of your bankroll on any one tournament". I'm not sure if that's a good rule to follow but is sounds like a good rule of thumb.

More like 150 minimum imho....

SNGs can be brutal when running bad...20 blanks in a row is normal. Id want like 60 buyins myself, so ~210 dollars or something.

suggest at least 50 buyins....75buy in is somewhat more secured...

cos u know, if multitabling...eg...4 tabling... your PC or laptop fail to function or network/power black outs....

it all may happen once or twice a while.

I would say keep playing what you are playing. Yeah its a slow grind but if you are beating them keep playing. Than try and move up a level and see what happens. No harm in trying a 5-10 trial run on them and see. If you lose move back down a level, if you make decent profit stay that way

Experiment at the next level and see how you go.. The skill between 1.5 and 3.5 is not that much.

The skill level is about the same. A trial run wouldn't hurt too bad but 10% of ur BR is a rule of thumb by the pros.

Also, suggesting 10% of your bankroll for a buyin of a SNG is recipe for disaster.

I think a lot depends on skill level.

IF you're new to teh game; I think 50 is ample enough for the lowest stakes. I certainly wouldn't recommend moving to $3.50's at $105 though, unless you can and are prepared to deposit. If this is the case, then that's fine..if not then I'd probs recommend at least $200 before you move up.

I think around 50-60 buy ins per whatever price you're playing is a safe bet, and a strategy for winning money.

Your minimum roll for SNGs is like 35 BIs. You're still underrolled for the level you're playing; don't move up.

If you are beating your level, don't be afraid to deposit to increase your playing bankroll so you don't have to move down a level when you are on a losing streak.

Bankroll management is important but most of us do break it at times, if you want to give a shot at one or 2 just don't go crazy and stay at that level until you have a bigger BR. If you end up doing good in those keep in mind what you have won at a higher level and if you are willing to play it back go for it, (basically separate your funds/BR) I say this because $15 is not really a bankroll, if that is all you can afford to put in you should for sure do something else with it. Good luck at the tables!

"I say this because $15 is not really a bankroll, if that is all you can afford to put in you should for sure do something else with it."

I disagree with that. Big time. Vehemently, even.

$15 is a roll. What else should the guy do with it? He's found an unneeded $15, turned it into $42, and is trying to move up while minimizing ruin. You're telling him to move up ("just don't go crazy") while telling him he's got no roll. C'mon, man. That ain't help.

$15 is a beautiful start. $42 is frickin' 200%, if y'all allow some bad-at-math rounding.

I say all that, to say, yo Blue: keep winning, don't over extend, and don't let anyone knock micros. You gotta start somewhere, and that start probably ought not include the rent.

I like the play one $3.50 in 10 games idea, but I would wait until you are closer to being rolled to play there permanently. It seems like a good way to not feel intimidated by moving to a new level.

A general rule to bankroll management is the less risked the better. I would not recommend playing a sit 'n' go with a buy-in of more than 5% of a persons total bankroll... Personally I only buyin if i have at least 50 buy-ins

I would move up at $150 , especially since you're playing multi table sngs. Best wishes!

Oh SNG's tilt me so hard. I guess I like the allure of earning 100 BI's+ in a single game. Lol those days are mostly gone though, except for Sunday games. Man I hate the current USA poker climate.

I think you should grind up to 200 at least on the 1.50's and then take a shot at the 3.50's if you drop back to 100 start on the 1.50's again and work on your game so that you can move up successfully. ie read books and review you play,

i agree, play one and see how it goes. i'm just starting out playing online and i've noticed in the 1-3 range, there's alot of maniacs that bet big with nothing and all you need to do is play the waiting game, let them eliminate themselves and get in the money. Personally i like the 6 man and 10 man double ups where 1-3 or 1-5 gets paid the same amount. i've been starting out in the 3 dollar tripple on bovada and usually survive to win and tried the 10 dollar and got dominated.

*walks in late*

As someone who used to be a reasonably high volume SnG reg... trust me, 50 buyins minimum. I used to prefer to have at least 100. The swings can be pretty brutal and you want cushioning against that.

Whether you multitable or not shouldn't make a difference.
