why do people show one card after winning a hand when that card gives no information, say theres a nine high straigt on board with no flush and he shows a duece after eveyone folds, it doesnt show any info about his hand. i see lots of people do that, but i dont get why

Because they are fools, the only thing someone does by showing any card(s) they don't need to is give free info to the other players. Some people do this to put others on tilt !lookie what I won with! but disciplined players will have info they can add to how the person has played previously and act accordingly on future hands. I do not even show pocket aces in big blind when it gets folded to me, that is just saying good fold everyone.

Ill do it occasionaly on line to mess with guys heads up. Try to make them think I was bluffing.

Funny story..Few weeks ago I get AQ preflop in live 1/2 game. I raise 3x BB in position after we had 6 limpers. Get two calls. Flop comes A J 6. Rainbow. SB bets 14 into like a 45 dollar pot, CO calls, I Raise to 28. Both players call.

Turn comes like 7 and now it's truly a rainbow board so now flush draw possible.

They check to me I bet 36. They both call. Now at this point I know one is a calling station and likely holds a hand like J Mid like 8 or 9.

River comes Q. I knew neither had played K10. Figured one played weak ace and other was station previously mentioned.

They check and I bet 68. Calling Station quickly folds and Weak ace is contemplating call. Think's I have straight. Since I know he doesn't have trips or K10 my two pair is good. So he showed me his ace and just his ace. I then turned over my ace so he knew I didn't have straight. He thinks then calls and shows like A4 and I flip top two.

it was one situation where revealing one of my cards made me some money. I knew he didn't have me beat cause he would have reraised and he frequently plays shitty hands. Table got a good laugh out of that hand.

Any time I show one card or two there is a reason for it. Either to help create a strong image or a weak one depending on my opponents.

Because they are fools? That's a bit severe isn't it? I've seen some of the top pros show one card (on TV). They have their reasons for doing so, and it may give them an advantage in certain situations.

Like everything in Poker it depends on the situation. Sometimes showing a bluff can put an opponent on tilt and give you an advantage later.

If someone takes the line of showing one card, take it as in general they have you beat.

Usually people who show one card actually have the best hand, even if the card they are showing is irrelevant.

They show one card to make you think they bluffed, when in fact, it means the opposite in most cases. You will always find as well; it's always on a flush/straight or paired board they show the irrelevant card, as they actually have the nut straight/nut flush or trips on the paired board with the other one card they didn't show. They will also take the showing one card on a like well connected board with over cards but actually have a set..for example; K,A,8,9,2 they will show the "weak" card as a 2, when infact they hold pocket decues so there "plan" is to make u think you folded the better hand or two pair or Ax and they bluffed you with bottom pair but of course they actually have the best had with the set.

Agreed, if someone wanted to show you a bluff why wouldn't they show both?

I learned this from watching Daniel Negreanu back when he used to do it alot on televised events can't remember one time when it was actually a bluff, they were all well disguised hands.
