OP is talking about online though, where you don't have the option to just show one card - you either show all of them or none of them.
Note too that if the hand has gone to showdown then everyone who was in the hand should be able to see what you had, regardless of whether you "muck" or not. On Full Tilt, for example, all you need to do is open the previous hand window and it'll show you the cards.
One other thing to be aware of, since we're talking about stud - note that some sites (maybe even all sites, IDK) will randomise the order of the player's hole cards or in some way reorder them so that you can't necessarily tell whether the player had you the whole way or whether they finally chased you down on seventh street. Sticking with Full Tilt as the example, IIRC they reorder the down cards in numerical order - so even if your cards in order were (75)6K8A(4) at showdown they'll appear as (45)6K8A(7).
They do this because it's common practice for live stud players to do the same thing.
