I'd say hide, as when you are going heads-up and you want to "reel him in", one may be extra cautious of you when seeing the "high level" (even tho one should never underestimate someone, most definitely not based on appearance, picture, name, etc.).

However, sometimes you would want someone to be cautious from you..
It kinda depends on the style you play in my opinion;

Are you the aggressive kind of player who takes as much small pots as you can, doing a bluff every now and then racing along the stack leaders. Being feared by the small fishes, but slowly hunted by the slow players?

Or more of a slow player patiently waiting for the big catches. Bumping your way up when the cards fall the way you need to take that shark down?

Whatever you want to do. Some people consider it fishy but who cares what they think.

I hide both mine and others, you don't want to give anyone any type of info they may be able to gather from seeing your status and you don't want your own decisions affected by seeing other players status levels

A lot of players with a high level of play is weak. Therefore, there is no difference

I don't understand the logic in this.

There are 2 possible premises which lead to 2 possible conclusions:

P1: Seeing the status level of players gives away useful information.
C1: Therefore, you should hide your own status but keep other players' statuses visible.

P2: Seeing the status level of players is misleading and causes you to make worse decisions.
C2: Therefore, you should show your own status but hide other players' statuses.

If you believe that the VIP status affects decision making processes in any way, then it is illogical to either:
- Hide your own status and hide other players' statuses as well
- Keep your own status visible and other players' statuses also visible

That's just the way logic works.

i don't look at your bronze silver gold as a skill level... just shows how much money you dump into cash games. I see a gold star in a micro I know he's fishing and going to play pretty loose because there is no value for him in the event.

The only way you make silver star or better is play mid level MTTs or crazy amount of cash games. I spent the better part of last year as silver star playing micro MTT's and it was hell trying to keep it up. So if I see higher level than that in a micro 5.50 or less I just figure hes got cash game mentality and i let the blind structure kill him. Don't take unnecessary risks but get it in when holding something good.

This isn't true at all. You can easily make silver star at 2NL and gold star at 10NL just by grinding 10-15 hours a week. You can even make gold star at 2NL and platinum star at 10NL if you grind full-time.

And there is definitely a correlation between those who have high VIP statuses and those who are good at poker. The average supernova player would crush the average chrome star player because they tend to be far more experienced at the game.

I know that some of the successful pros not only hide their skill level, but also make themselves unsearchable on the pokerstars client, which sucks.

Some also block their results from being tracked at online poker ranking sites and some have disabled their sharkscope stats as well.

And I thought players mainly did these things so that they wouldn't be bum hunted, lol. But some of these pros don't want the recreational players to know who they are up against.

It is better to show the VIP level in poker, it intimidates your opponent when you are in a dispute

Cause hide - that is better for you as your opponent won't know any information about you.

Hide it! The less information your opponents have the better for you

I don't show mine because I don't think it means anything. If others want to show, it doesn't intimidate me if they are supernova platinum superstar mutant. Their play is subject to the same variance as me as far as I am concerned. Play within your own comfort level and let the chips fly where they might. I asked a supernova why he played micro, and he said it was just to jerk around. Just because you are Phil Hellmuth doesn't automatically give you winning hands. That's why poker can be played by anyone. Just one donk's opinion.

I hide mine and don't hide opponents. Anyone with Supernova+ playing my MTTs is instantly considered a multi-tabling fish :D
