So with my grind here lately I am actually beginning to accumulate a decent amount of full tilt points. I do want to start buying books with either out of pocket money or full tilt points. Should I just spend the points on books or save them for something else?

If so, which books would you guys recommend to get from the full tilt store?

Here is a link to the books offered: [old link~tb]

Look around the store and see if there is anything that you want to get. I got the leather poker deck and I just ordered The Poker Mindset. It all depends on what you want

For the most part, I think FTP store items are overpriced. You can probably get better value buying these same items from a regular store (especially if you have rakeback, since spending FTP points hits your MGR).

But as for what poker books are worth reading; I can recommend a couple, but as mentioned above, it depends on what games you play.

Well kind of. The books are overprice if you just look at the MGR hit. A book that cost 9100 points (a common price) hits your MGR for $36.40 BUT that's only a rb hit of $9.82. You can't by a lot of those books for that cheap.

You could also check your local library (if they don't have it they can probably get it). Used bookstores are also good. I found the new Harrington on online poker book used a couple weeks ago for $15 so even used it was more than the rb value lost from buying it through ftp.

I play $2 NL. And the occasional SnG.

As far as all the Full Tilt swag I really have no interest in any of it. The only thing I could see me getting is the security dongles. But I would need to raise my bankroll a bit before that would be worth its investment haha.

Although the tourney tickets seem like a decent investment.

Earning more points may not be good for my bankroll though. Points are just extra for me :)

"Fulltilt poker strategy Guide - Tournament Edition" is an ok book (& one you'll probably not get via library).
Many books you can pick up at a library & if they don't have it on their shelves they'll likely be able to get it for you via an 'inter-library book loan' (I've done this with alot of the poker books I've purchased... after buying a few I wish I hadn't bothered with).
There's a couple of satellites for bigger tournaments that might be something to spend pts. on? (ie. 2,500 satty to the $750Kguar. (I think it's ~100seats guar.) & 3500 pts satty to the Sun.Brawl is another).
idk... personally I buy hats, lol (the FTP hats are decent)

For SnGs, I can't recommend Collin Moshman's "Sit 'n Go Strategy" highly enough. It gave me a much better understanding of ICM and end game push/fold play.

I enjoyed Gus Hansen's "Every Hand Revealed", and learning the thought process behind every hand GH played (or at least didn't fold pre-flop) during the 2007 Aussie Millions (which he ended up taking down).

Everything in the "Harrington" series and Sklansky's "Theory of Poker" is pretty much universally well-regarded, though I'm only partway through with these myself (I only own them in digital format, which makes the reading is slow-going... also I find various online articles and videos more useful for learning cash games).

All of these are available in the FTP store (I double checked).

All this is really awesome. Quite a few people have recommended Moshmans book on SnGs so I think I will definitely pick that up, maybe even before I get enough points in the ftp store.

Thanks!

I don't think you'll regret that choice. That book is one you'll be able to leaf thru a bunch of times after reading it cover-to-cover.

Here is a post I wrote a while back that I usually link to when someone asks this, or a similar question about Full Tilt Points.

I like to use my points as a second bankroll, and then use them to buy tournament entries way out of my budget. Here is how it's done.....

Damn good post man. I know there is reading material I need to purchase either way, although the satelliting into tourneys is not a bad idea to spend them on either.

I think you are better off using the points on tournaments and buying the books on Ebay or something. Most of the things in the FTP store are overprice.

Buying books with points isn't worth it, considering they truly are over-priced in the ftp store. You are better off buying them from online book sellers like amazon or chapters, which are even cheaper then buying them in the store.

Tourney step tickets aren't a bad way to go, although you could try the 2500 ftp mtt satellite on saturdays. You can satellite in for 650ftp if you place in the top 2 of a 9 player sng. There's about 70-85 seats to the $750k gtd awarded...takes about 4 hours to play thru. I've won four seats already thru it.

idk... Tommy Angelo book might be 'worth it'. Just sayin'....
I was on skype today with a friend & saw you go out in a tourney, prior to hands turning over I said to friend,"Ok.. watch the chatbox now... here it comes....... yup.. "*#***#*#*#*!!!!" .... "*#%*#*%#*%*#!!!!!"
& sure enough.. 'good read me'. You might get some value from that book for a few pts.?

The best bang for the buck if you are a cash game player I "Harrington on Online Cash Games" IMO. Only like $8-9 RB hit and retails for $39.99 new. Good book that will help you kill the micro's and possibly far more if you study hard enough. Do a search for it.

Don't get Moshman's book with points. It retails for $25 new and is actually more points than Harrington's! You could prolly get a used copy for $10-20 cash.

Just buy books from shops or amazon, use the points on something more effective :)
