Should I play very tight in freerolls?

I just accidental took an experiment lately in freerolls with a very large field of 10,000 players on pokerstars. I registered and take a little nap, but it turned out to be an 8-hours happy nap. And I finished 2,166 with 0 actions.
It's better than when I awake and play (normally finished at 4xxxth or earlier). -_-"

I just curious that would it be better if I play very tight,
select very few high hands to play and avoid marginal hands and all-in actions?

In such tournaments in the early plays a lot of players who don't understand anything neither the bluff nor the size of the bet, so any poker school beginners are advised to be very careful and play only very strong hands. After bigger amount of noobs will be eliminated, you can play normal poker.

Typically starting out yes play super tight. Reason being is that a lot of guys are going to be shoving with any two cards trying to get lucky and build an early lead. However, if you notice the table is being super tight, maybe try and steal a few blinds, don't risk a bunch of chips doing so.

It's better to play tight and only when you really have something in your hand.
If you alreay know your opponents you can practice some strategies and bluffing.

I agree that the tournaments that have over 1,000 players need to play slowly . But it happens ( pokerstar ) that when you play slowly you get a pair of KK or AA , and little hand eat your hand. I think it was on purpose because you do not play often , these ( pokerstar ) somehow chooses to lose ... my opinion .

AA and KK lose a lot of hands at all online sites, live games and just practicing at home. It's just a pair. If you don't think you'll get 80% of the players off their hand before the turn you'll more than likely get behind if you aren't already.

I always start out tight in freeroll tournaments. As the field dwindles down you can slowly begin to play like you normally would.

At the beginning of a freeroll, it's usually a nuthouse. Wait for strong hands and just try to double up.

later on, though, as you get close to the money, it actually seems to go the other way and become extremely tight. that's a good time to lossen up a bit and really start stealing the blinds and antes.

I think you should play the same way you would play if it were a paid tournament, the fact of not having paid for it does not reduce the responsibility to play well.

Play tight through an entire freeroll? No. I think in order to get to the later stages ya need to win some big coinflips.

In a freeroll, the first hour should be observing the other player's actions and play tight. Then, adjust accordingly depending on which player you are up against. Take notes if you have to.

mmm I always think paying a very tight game in these is best instead of no game. Not playing ensures you get to a certain position but with you being there making (very tight positions) you have a greater probability of getting further. Although I don't have the patience to do this and would rather just try and play a solid game, it's a good idea to play into pots where you're pretty much certain to win, not just pretty sure.

That is if you're not trying to get much better. I feel for the pokerstars learners freerolls you're better off trying to improve you're game than trying to win a few cents, but hey, those are my two :)

Should I play very tight in freerolls

i think u need to adapt to your oponent, maybe the right movement is play tight and go strong with a good pair of cards, mosters, or pay a little bit of your stack to see the flop and decide about that

I say feel it out no matter what but personally I like gaining an early lead and whenever possible I will late reg freerolls to avoid a lot as much small blind beginnings as I can.

When you are not in a freeroll you might want to see a lot of flops with a wide range of hands. If you are in a freerol with more then 10.000 palyers you have to slect your hands because there are to many nutcases who think that any two cards can win and shove all in.

Absolutely damn no, of course that doesn't mean to do any stupid decisions but playing too tight in perspective is not helpful cause later you will be fighting for every blind you have.

You should always start super tight in freerolls. 30% of the players bust out during the first 4-5 levels.

I would suggest you do not take part in the freerolls, because you just spend all your nerves and make a deposit and play bankroll

People go all in free roll with nothing. play very tight for the first hour. Problem is it is frustrating and i end up calling the bastards that go in after i raise a good hand.

I avoid all-ins in early stages. Even with AA. Even with 100% chance to win. I wait to get to the prizes and till the moment when all maniacs (who goes all-in with 56 or 23 and wins!) are thrown away. Then I play more risky. Got my 10-20 cents and fly away. Then in the same evening I lose that cents in cash nl2.

What you need to play tight - that's understandable, but sometimes there is a good hand, but on the horizon there is a maniac and throwing chips all the spoils to the left and to the right. In such cases it is better to wait and still take the risk, if the hands of the monster?
