Hey all.

I was in a tournament last night and I was very short stacked but there were only a few more people to be eliminated before the prize money. I was dealt KK but decided to fold because I knew in a table full of donkeys with big stacks I would have been called right away by at least 2 people. It was better for me to fold because I was almost broke and needed to make the money. I think most people would say that you have to play KK, but what about QQ? Do you fold and make the money or risk getting called by multiple people and getting knocked out of the tournament?

You are short stacked in a table is full of donkeys and you are are almost in the money:

What hands do you play and which hands would you fold?

Wrong game for you if you are folding KK preflop when you get shortstacked, shove and fistpump when you get 2 calls. Shove QQ, shove AK, dependant on how shortstacked you actually are, and what the bubble payout is, then I shove bucketloads of hands.

If you're folding KK, why play QQ? And why are there so many threads about folding AA/KK preflop right now?

^^^THIS^^^ If your folding KK or QQ to make "the money" then you may be playing with scared money and thats not a good thing. The only time i can see this happening is you won a seat to the wsop and your about to make the money then maybe because thats a significant amount of money, but online to fold KK or QQ to make $2,$4,$10 what ever it is thats just not a good play.

How sure are you that you will cash if you fold. And how big will your stack be if you push and win. How much is cashing and will wining this pot give you a better chance for 1st. I got no idea of anyof this but think KK is a good chance to more than triple. I'd probably be shoving very wide hear. Like any 2 cards over ten any pocket pair any ace or king and even some suited connectors as well.

question: if this is not good play online, why would this be good play in a seat at the WSOP. with a short online bankroll this may be allot of money to the OP. I really think folding in both instances is the wrong play

and as far as using the situation of winning a seat at the WSOP. if they cannot afford to play ther seat they won correctly at the bubble, they shoulda cashed in the seat before the tourney started.

At least if every1 folds you get then blind or even better you get tippled up and can sit out to CASH EVEN HIGHER!!

alot of people play scared on the bubble but hey "scared money makes no money"

I'm saying if I won a seat to the WSoP for say $40 like moneymaker and I'm down to $8000 and its the bubble to make $20k+ I would fold KK to win the 20k+. But if online and I buyin for $5.50 and its the bubble and to cash for say $10.30 there is a big difference. I could handle losing out on a $5 gain by pushing and taking a chance with KK losing on the bubble but couldn't handle pushing with KK on the bubble and losing a chance at 20k+

Maybe the only time I might fold KK, or QQ when I'm SS, is if I'm in a satellite tourney, and I'm 1 or 2 away from a ticket. Still I probally would have a hard time folding. You gotta push.

All this talk of QQ reminds me when I was short stacked after the blinds went through me, three people from the money which was divided equally as it was a satellite, I got QQ and shoved with it thinking the blinds could reach me and knock me out... I got called by A-rag and he caught his ace... tourney was over next hand and i felt really stupid lol.

Really? This is just as bad as the OP. You might consider folding a big stack in this situation where you have nothing to gain and everything to lose, but short stacked? You just cannot be that squeamish.

By SS, I'm sure he means short on chips but not the shortest stack in the tourney. In that case he would be correct.

What? Some of the best advice I ever got was so simple. Play to win, not place.

For me shortstacked with KK or QQ is an insta-shove. You are pretty much guaranteed to be getting your money in with the best hand. If some donks want to call with A-5 or A-3, let them, you are a big favorite. Sometimes they will hit, but you have to play big hole cards if you ever want to win.

You know, I think that's my main problem, once I get past the bubble I play alright, but i bubble so many times because I'm playing 'just to cash,' I try to look for a certain amount and think oh yeah i can get ITM with this I'll just be super super super tight from now on...
