Pot-Limit & No-Limit Poker – By Stewart Reuben and Bob Ciaffone
However, one bit of good advice reminded us to use the “Five and Ten Rule.” Quoting: “When contemplating calling a raise because your position is good, you have a clear call if the amount is less than five percent of your stack, and a clear fold if it is more than ten percent. In between those numbers use your judgment.” Everyone looks for a gauge; here is one you could start using today.
Note: when playing cash especially, 10x the amount of the bet is what the raiser should have in their stack for you to call. If they have $5 and raise $.75 forget it. If they have $15 total and raise $.75 there is enough money to pay you off (implied odds of hitting your 7.5-1 outs). Some even think it should be 12-15x, due to the fact in some cases you will hit the set and lose to a boat, flush, or straight.
Good Luck.
