I am a solid tourney player who cannot win at cash. What's the best tip you can give me to be able to be competent at both?

Find some solid players who have written recent books and read them. A couple of good podcast out there which review hands, Thinking poker, Postflop poker podcase, smart study poker, under the gun poker podcast (has sports too which you can skip), J Little weekly poker hand.

Also some teaching sites are good.

Play, review, play, notes on players, play....

in my case when I play at the cash tables .. the first thing I do is play very quiet while studying my opponents ... I usually take notes about their movements and then I determine my game strategy ... this has helped me a lot. ..!

When you find the answer please share it :) it's a tough school cash over tourney.

mind games I guess to start with a stack for say $2-$5 tourny entry over a stack $50 cash, your playing 10 games in one go (in my mind)

a game within a game

Cash is much more dynamic than tournys, you can get much more creative with how you play. Honestly just mark the hands that you feel uncomfortable with and really look over them with a fine tooth comb.

Build a good data base on your opponents, and then kill them ... first barrel second barrel, all in !!! When you know to bluff just kill them! People are super tight these days...as long as your red line is way up, u are in a good way!

Hello.
My best secret is to play in that which brings profit. Cash games do not bring me profits, so I play only in tournaments. Everything is very simple.

Oh you raised a very good question, I think he's tormenting a lot of tournament poker players. As practice shows, players in cash poker - it's easier to go to the tournament than vice versa.
Cache games and especially live ones require a good study of the oponents, as well as a cold mind and the ability to uncover the player's bluff.
Good luck

Another good strategy is to make notes on all your players. Any hand they show down, write it down with any details you can remember from the hand. Most replies are correct, cash games require more attention to detail. The more notes you make the more you will be able to figure out your opponents range of hands.

Cash games also allow you to widen your range a bit, playing more suited connectors and lower pairs

Cash is where real Poker is played. I love both Ring games and Tournaments, but cash games are where you will learn how to crush Poker postflop (if you study hard). I actually became a better tournament player after spending a long time trying to beat microstakes cash. Read Splitsuit. That's all I can say

My advice is..bet your sets, raise your good hands, change tables regularly, dont play speculative hands or bluff too regularly - identify weak bets or raises and exploit those players..bankroll manage well and you will make a profit eventually

There is no secret. If you don't do it in cash you just suck in poker and win by luck in tourneys (at least in deep stack phase and given low levels). Best way to learn not suck (in low levels) is to get someone to comment your play, at least 2 levels up from your level.

There was a girl/woman/hot anyways here in forum like one year ago she learned cash in 2 to 3 months from tourneys.
