Just confirming that in the case of a tie with the kicker then the 'second' kicker is use to break the tie?

e.g. A 7 plays A 6

Table cards Q Q 5 3 2

The winning hand is a pair Q Q

The kickers match A vs A

So the 'second' kicker breaks the tie 7 beats 6

?

Does the 'second' kicker have a name? Is 'second kicker' a recognised term?

No, it is still just a kicker.

Edit: QQ isn't a winning hand. All poker hands have 5 cards.

Q-Q-A-7-5 is a winning hand. Q-Q-A-6-5 is the second best hand. The player holding A-7 had a better kicker, the 7, and was able to create the best 5 card hand.

Thanks for confirming the sequence of precedence.

As far as terminology goes, I found this wiki page and it says in a 'pair' hand that all 3 other cards are termed kickers, even ones that match.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_poker_hands#One_pair

Using the terminology from that page to describe the above hand the 'highest ranking kicker' is A vs A and it matches so to decide the hand you go to the 'second highest ranking' kicker.

While I agree that these might all be kickers, when we use the term "kicker" we're talking about the one that counts. It's a verbal shorthand. You're not going to say "second kicker" because that implies that your kicker is second best and not that you are using the second of multiple kickers. It just is confusing and terms that can be taken multiple ways should be avoided at the table.

Second kicker is the guy you bring on in rugby when the first kicker sucks.
