Hi everybody im new here i didnt know where to post this so i posted it here, soooz, here's my story.. ( Im not good at English so if there are some mistakes don't judge me )
So at the start i learned some poker theories watched some videos about hands, about poker. And then i wanted to try it, i started to play at pokerstars, (i don't have much money ) so i deposited the minimum 10 $ , at the start i played pretty good, i went in for zoom 0.10/0.025 $ runned up to 90 $, but then i lost it all, i deposited again and needless to say i lost all again, then started the madness:mad:, i started to depositing every time i lost 10 $ again, again, again, so for about one and half month i lost about 400 $,:( ( big money thought ) but when i deposited i thinked its small money.. needless to say, played freerolls, where earned some money but not much maybe 1-2 $, im playing pretty agressive, i can bluff off enemy pretty easily, im feeling the board, im feeling the cards coming, i can tell what cards he holds with the actions he makes.. But at the end i still call i stupidly lose money...
Always when i deposite i run up from 10 $ to about 20-30 $, im playing poker about 6-8 hours( at the weekends for Sunday, Saturday about 12 hours ) a day, playing very much hands, im feeling bad - im playing poker, feeling good - playing poker.. I don't care i just love to play.. And i think thats the problem.. I need to control my self and make a bankroll management..
I will take a break i think 1-2 weeks where i will learn some more and find my leaks, then i will deposite 50 $, and start playing micro-stakes cash games, 0.02 tables, when was the micro millions thought i played a sit & goes buy in (FPP), winned some tickets but didn't go pretty deep.
So whats your recommedation, advice for me? Should i quit poker or should i continue to learn and it all will turn around? (from micro-stakes playing i earned in a month and little bit more - about 1200 FPP's and my VIP status is Goldstar.)

Heres my advice.

Think of your brain as a pond ok by that I mean the water gets dirty - you can input all this information and all this knowledge into your mind lots of good information.
But for it to stay clear you need a filter and there are 4 areas that will effect your filter.

Your hobbies
Your lifestyle
Your relationship/environment
you social influences.

you need all 4 to be positive and healthy it needs to be in sync with your poker development to be successful long term.

Playing for fun and excitement can be a form of addiction if not its an enjoyment, thrills of the game are an emotion we need to de attach from both the good and the bad 'beyond pleasure beyond pain only progression and gain.

Think of yourself as a machine de-attached from emotion and your job is to
collect money by keeping to the right fundamental system, Range, Position, Bankroll and understanding and exploiting to the best of your ability (alot more technical)

Outcomes don't matter in poker odds statistics, loss frequency your job is to accept that your not going to run well every time before you even sit at the tables.
Discipline, your mental state and most importantly you need the right knowledge to be able to assess if your making the right decisions.

Do all this and I'm pretty sure you'll avoid big losses

You really remind me of myself when I started playing 12 years ago. I played so much that I could not think of anything other than poker. And I know all about the losing and depositing over and over until I had nothing else to sell or pawn. But that thought in the back of my mind that I would hit it big kept me playing and all I was getting was tired. It has taken me a long time to really become a winning player. I know not to play hungry, tired, lonely,or drunk. But what has helped me so much, is to let every hand go after it's over and go to the next. Before hand, I would be thinking about a losing hand 30 minutes ago and still steaming and not be paying attention to the one I'm in, and probably lose that one too. I don't mean to make this so long, but this is the last I will say. Keep posting those problems and read the replies and put them to work, and your game will change. GL

Sounds like me right now.. Thanks for this post... I spend so much time playing that my tilt sessions end up as horror stories.. I'm only 21 and have been playing for about 2 years.. I have made several big runs at a young age and feel I have a great grasp of the game for having spent such few years playing it, but often when I blow big wins I feel like it has something to do with the fact I spend so much time playing that I can't comprehend in the moment that because of the long sessions I expose myself to more bad beats than the average player

Honestly, it will probably not turn around quickly.

My recommendation would be to stop depositing completely. That way you cannot lose any more money with your gambling addiction. If you still have a passion to play poker, stick to freerolls or play money and learn the patience required to play tightly and stop calling or bluffing away chips when you are behind.

The way I see it, if you can't make a profit from $400, you will not make a profit from $50. I am sorry but it is probably the truth right now. However, if you can somehow eventually learn to make a profit from $0, or somehow from your FPPs, it will always be a profit and at least you can never lose money playing or learning the game ever again.

You can still lose a lot of time and energy, and it is not an ideal way to learn poker. But I think if you are addicted to the rush of gambling then it is the only way. You need to look after other aspects in your life too. You will make more mistakes playing poker before you learn more, and you need to be able to afford these mistakes.

think the key point is understanding poker is a variance game.
therefore, need to learn some knowledge about how to manage your balance on your account.

it looks like the basic mistake is using insufficient bank roll to play relative high buying game. but think the key point is the bankroll management.

good luck there.

I made myself a promise when I started to play online poker almost 1 and a half year now.
Dont spend money at poker, that is not coming from winnings.
It sounds logic in many way, if you wanna avoid losses.
But anyway it has been a long first half year only playing freerolls for hours and hours.
I startet with the pokerstars pokerschool and learned all the basic stuff and earned some money in the leaderboards.
Then I discovered Cardschat and startet to ask questions in here and improved more.
lately I startet to focus on the mental game to improve even more.
The world of poker is very big and as you see in the post above you need a long time to learn about it if you want you brain to be able to understand it.
Now I have made myself a bankroll and I make between 100 and 150 VPPs every month, means I have been Pokerstars chromestar since april and even one month I was silver.
go for it, you can learn something new every day for the rest of you life.

z4kd there is some good advice here, so take it and use it. I did it and you can too. I know what it feels like to win a big pot with your own money, and I also know how it feels to lose it all and have to start over again. I don't have money to deposit anymore, so I take this advice about bankroll management seriously, and so should you. These players will lead you in the right direction if you will let them.

Did anybody else notice the $10 deposit to play 25nl?

So you're playing a medium stack with 1 mid-stack buy-in?

First of all, you stated the exact issue... You need bankroll management. You definitely should not have your deposit on the table. You should be playing at stakes where you've got 15-40 buy-ins, so $10 won't be enough. You can play 2nl with 5 buy-ins, but it's best to just go ahead and deposit $30-40 and play 2nl. Also, stop bluffing. It's overrated.

I love when people bluff and show their bluff on Carbon. It just makes it easier on me when I actually have a strong hand and they try another cute bluff. I'll just play along until they hang themselves.

Bluffing has its moments under the right circumstances, but some people get carried away with it.

In the beginning I also deposit 10$ and lost, and deposit and lost again. Then, after learning more about poker (watch vídeos, registering sites, play more hours and learn with the hands I play...) I realise that I should change my playing strategy. I start to play tournaments according with my bankroll (allways playing 0,10% of it), I start to increase the winnings, I had defined my hands and I also defined the tournaments that I should play. I also play all the frerrols that I can and nowadays I can say that I'm a better poker player. I want to win all and turn 10$ in millions in two hands (lol) but that it's not possible. We have to continue to play and continue to learn allways getting better our skills.

If you are investing 400 to play poker for this period of time I would buy a HUD and learn it inside out - if you don´t like how much they cost try the free trial month or use the Jivaro HUD which is free. For me getting a HUD changed completely how I play the game!

Hello, guys, it's me.
It had been eight long years.
And I'm back here writing because I have no one else to truly talk to, I'm feeling alone, and I don't want to discuss it with my parents.
My gambling addiction began eight years ago, when I was a teenager of 15 years old. When I was 18, I had a girlfriend for four years, where I quietly gambled for relatively small amounts I was quite stupid back then and played slots at the beginning of university with a friend of mine), had days where I nearly lost everything and always thought about where to get the money to gamble back my losses, sometimes I had big wins, like 5,000 eur, 3,000 eur, but it never lasted long, I bought some nice things and stuff, but it never lasted long,.
She never knew I was a gambler, but I knew I had to leave her because she loved me and I didn't want her to be with someone like me. I never told her why.
I never gambled with money I needed for rent or other expenses. Over the years, I have consistently gambled with the money remaining after paying rent, estimating how much money I need for food, bills, etc. I was extremely cautious in all aspects and assessed how much I might lose each month.
As I was pursuing a bachelor's degree in Information technologies (cybersecurity) at university, I did not have a job. However, my parents, who resided abroad, sent me money, which for my country was fairly good in those years, so I was able to live comfortably. Of course, there were instances in which I gambled the money and then claimed that I needed it to pay for further college expenses, which I am embarrassed of and guilty about.
However, it did not end there, did it? It was only the beginning of something larger...
blackjack was the game that always captivated and amazed me. When I played, all my problems disappeared and I felt great when I won. The real happiness and emotion rush were probably the reasons why I was playing, but I'm still not sure if that was the true reason.
I was always able to set money aside and never touch it again until much later.
When I was 20/21, I began playing in online casinos with live dealers. It was enjoyable to interact with them, listen to their life tales, and be asked how I felt. I bet with sums of 200, 300, and 400 euros, had my ups and downs, but ultimately I always lost.
I have always realized that I had a problem and attempted to overcome it, but I always ended up gambling, so I blocked myself from gambling in my country.
I believed I had constrained my gambling... (Oh, how I was wrong!)

Then I began working at a well-paying position, where I consistently went above and beyond, remained late, and performed a huge amount of extra work, etc. I was persistent and saw meaning, and in January of 2021 I began investing in cryptocurrencies (the best decision).
By doing my own research, engaging in several pre-sales, hunting for the finest use cases, and knowing how crypto works, I had amassed a diverse portfolio of crypto coins. After the crypto crash, I was brave enough to take out my first loan and invest in crypto.
I also began to perform technical analysis on the charts, trade futures, and do a variety of other activities. Had my up's and down's, but blackjack.. it always came at unexpected times, and as I banned myself in my country, I found a way to gamble anyway through crypto(amazing), sometimes I didn't gamble for two-three months, but then it exploded, I could deposit 2000 eur, and gamble in one night, the following morning I could deposit another 2000 eur, and gamble again to win back the previous amount, and guess what? I eventually won more than I had initially deposited.
It seems as though I have two personalities, one that is always telling me not to do it, and if I do it, then it tells me to cash out when i'm winning, so I always tried to cash out partially, but it didn't help in the long run since you can always deposit it back and lose it. Eventually I had
saved almost $20,000 and established a great portfolio.
However, my naive nature always desired more. And the thought of blackjack returned to me.
I lost my entire portfolio in 24 hours.

Currently, I'm in a few debts (to the bank), and I'm feeling empty, lonely, and unhappy. I've always had suicidal ideas, but they've always remained just that: thoughts.
As I write this, it is really difficult for me to comprehend everything. This is my small story (there is actually a lot more to it), and I am certain that I have a gambling addiction, which I will now attempt to fight and possibly rebuild everything that i have lost.

Bankroll management is a HUGE part of being a successful poker in my opinion and from you posted I would suggest following a better choice of games. Also, there are swings in poker no matter what your skill level is, so try to keep that in mind as well.

don't play something you can't afford to loose
I always play cash game with only the winningd from freerolls

hello, well, after 8 years, you should have already understood that gambling will not lead you to anything good, it is advisable for you to work with a psychologist on this topic, since you have serious problems with gambling, but in terms of poker, you need to analyze your game and it is advisable to do this with a trainer but your problems are much deeper

Completely agree with all of this. Even though I love poker and think, it can be much more than just gambling, I dont think, its suitable for someone with your history of gambling problem. So in top of finding a good psychologist, I will also suggest you to permanently self exclude from all online sites, that offer this possibility, which should be most of them.

It's a matter of personality before poker. Me too.
