Scared of moving up in the micro stakes.

I am at .01/.02 for 2 weeks now and won a decent amount of money. I would probably need to move up sooner or later but I'm afraid the players would be harder to beat and move back down again.

Are you rolled to move up to $0.02/$0.05?

bankroll management. Most people say that $2nl is not that different from $5nl.

I've read that staying at 2NL too long can build bad habits that won't play at the higher limits, and you're also wasting money you could be making. (saw a thread of some guy who played 300k hands at 2NL) So if you're rolled for it and you're winning. GL!

Yeah, I guess I have adapted to 2NL so much that I am at a C rating at pokertableratings.com for PF tightness since its the only way to win at this level.
I am a couple of bucks short of my ideal BR for .02/.05 ($5buyin), I can win enough probably in a couple of days or a week if I still have the time to play.
I'm thinking of going ahead of moving up since I don't think there will be a drastic change in the skill level of the players and like coolnout said I'll build bad habits and miss on a better opportunity. I am just afraid that I'll run bad and lose some of those hands (AA vs 22) whereas I'm basically being given $2.

if your bankroll is at least 30 times the maximum buy in, then i would advise you to go for it. sooner or later you will have to play hiher limits, because otherwise i don't see how this can be worth the time

How much do you consider a good bankroll for 5nl?

200 would be my ideal BR if I'm going to play 5NL. Another problem that I have is I like playing alot of tables and that even though I'm rolled for 5NL I'm still risking a big chunk of my BR.

Playing more tables does not require you to increase your bankroll.

That is assuming you are used enough to it that your edge doesn't drop precipitously. It might not be a bad idea to 1. be overrolled at first, and 2. only add tables one or two at a time.

At some stage i guess you just gotta move up in limits. The players you are going to come across in 2c 5c really arent very good at all. They still make terrible decisions like the ones at 1c 2c. There are huge wholes in their games that if your good enough to, you can really exploit them.

If you feel that you should move up in stakes, just do it. Theres no point sticking around in 1c 2c forever. Eventually your gonna have to move up and this sounds like a really good chance to.

Just give you my experience, I played micro sngs and got waaay overolled then something came up and I needed the money so I had to withdraw and now I am back to square one. This sucks and wish I just moved up instead of being a BR nit so next time I get back up to next level I will set a stoploss of buy-ins and if it doesnt work out try make a little more than I had then try again.

It's all about the BR baby, my strategy is to move up and take a 3BI shot at the next level at around 23BI's.

I've never bothered to use 'proper' BRM rules for 5nl though so don't be afraid to move up, the play in my exp is not a hell of a lot different to 2nl, even 10nl isn't amazingly different to 5nl

IMO $100 is enough to play 5nl with, if you have that in your roll then go for it man.

manage your bankroll! i'd say that if you play pot limit or no limit poker, the appropriate recommended size of your bankroll is 20 times the full buy-in. start with that..

What do you play.. full ring or 6maxNL? If you play 6max I think you'll see a bit of a difference in the player's skill on the tables (depending upon what site you play on... some sites 25NL is as fishy as 2NL is on others, this has been my experience anyways). In fullring they seem about the same (it's also been my experience that the regs. who play micro limit 6max are better than the ones playing fullring... maybe I didn't word that very well...try again..>>> I think there's a larger percentage of decent players in 6max5NL than in fullring).

Without knowing that, it basically sounds like your problem is one of feeling comfortable/confident so why not move up to 5NL, play less tables then you'd typically be playing and give it a shot? You can always move back down if you lose a few buyins. If you typically play 4tables, why not just play 2... then add a 3rd later on as you gain confidence.

$200 for 5NL, that seems a bit high to me. I just moved up to 10NL upon hitting 10NL and it doesn't seem much harder. 5NL is just as easy as 2NL, though it is slightly different. I played $.01/$.02 NLHE with $50 and hated it.
I made a deal with myself that when I made $20 I could use take that to any limit I wanted.

When I had the $20 I skipped $5NL and went to $10NL ($.02/$.10). I killed at $10NL never looked back. I found $10NL to be easier money.

Now, when I say easier I think that I just took the game more seriously, so I played better.

From $.01/$.02 up to $.10/$.25 the players are just plain bad. The skill level doesn't really go up much until the $.25/$.50 stakes, and even then you find a fair amount of fish. (At the $.25/$.50 limits though a suckout can easily put you on tilt unless properly rolled.)

2NL/5NL went smoothly 7BB/100 but I am getting killed at 10NL down 1 buyin after 12k hands.. I was up 4 buyins but I just can't win in the past 5k hands. I am just lost at the moment, lost 4 times with Kings against aces yesterday. I can't really tell if this level is harder for me or I'm running bad.

They can't be so good to take your money. Just play like now and everything will gonna be allwrite.
You can beat them because over there are players who don't know the strategy and hopes they can win lot of money quikly.

Sure, I would never lose 200$ in a day at the lower levels, like I sometimes do now, but the only way to know for sure is to try.

yea thats defantly true people go all in with random crap there when you get up its real players and its alot easier to read what they could have and also how much you have to bet to get them off the hand
