Saving Money in Limit, just as good as winning
The last 2 days, I have found myself in the uneasy position of having KK, and QQ in 2 separate hands and knowing that I was beat. Just thought I would post for anyone who has trouble laying down big pairs in limit. Knowing when your beat can save you a lot of money and improve your game in the long run. With KK there was a raise, and a call to me, I raised and was then reraised. My radar is now on. The flop came Js3sAh. There was a bet, a call and a raise to me. Now I did have the K of spades, but that would need runner runner spade to make me the best hand. With that much action, there had to be an ace out there, also possibilities for a flush draw. Not knowing whether or not I even had a chance to catch one of my 2 outs, the other Kings I felt It was best to fold. Hand played out on my blog also.
With QQ same thing, it went call, call, raise to me on the button. I reraised which left us with only one of the callers, but the original raiser capped it. The flop was 2s6s6c. Not a bad flop but not great. Check, bet, I call, and am followed by a caller, perhaps I could raise here but I think the original raiser is strong and I do not want to give him a chance to cap another round. I just want to see another card cheap. And the worst card comes. As, making a three flush on the board at the same time as putting an overcard. Action: Check, and bet to me, I actually thought about this for a bit and then released, no card on the river would make it worth my while to stay in and I feared a made flush. Well I folded and a raising war insued. The river was 8d. and the other players flipped over AK and K10s for the win with the flush.
Just two examples of saving money when some might feel inclined to call all the way down or even raise with blinders on not paying attention to the other players action. I am not saying fold all the time, these were just two examples were my feeling was right and I save a ton of bets. Hope this helps someone. Good Luck
