Hi I'm new to the forum. Hello everyone.

I have a question regarding posting and sitting out in ring games. I have read many sets of rules including Robert's rules of poker, but I can't find this particular situation.

If a player sits out during a Texas Hold'em ring game (doesn't get dealt cards) and then returns and has not missed any blinds does the player have to post the big blind or wait for the big blind before the player can get dealt back in?

Thanks

I'm not sure if it's dependent on the room, but where I play I tell the dealer whether to continue dealing me in or not if I'm standing up from the table.

If I say "keep dealing me in" and I don't make it back by the time the blinds hit me, my blind is taken from my stack by the dealer and my hand is folded.

If I say "deal me out" and I make it back before the blinds hit me, I need to either wait for the big blind or post early.

If I don't say anything, their rule is that I'm to be dealt out.

Are you talking about someone has been playing and then sits out but does not miss a blind? If so then NO they do not have to post when they sit back in because its just like they folded their cards. Now if a player has been sitting and sits ot and misses the blinds then YES they do have to post both the small and Big blind in order to get dealt cards or they can simply wait until the BB gets to them and only post that. Now if a player just comes into the game they can be dealt cards any time by posting the BB or they can wait til BB gets to them in turn. Hope this answers your question.

if a player is sitting out and has not reached the big blind then im guessing on the poker site/card room then he wouldnt need to post the big blind out of turn.
If he has been sitting out for a while (passed the big/small blind) then he will have to post a dead blind of the big + small.

Is this what u mean?

If you have paid the bb once for the round, you do not have to pay it as long as you get back in before it comes around again.

If you sit out, but you come back before you have to post your blind, you don't have to repost. This changes if you move seats, but otherwise I'm fairly confident you don't have to repost.

^ this. Say you're in the cutoff, you fold your hand then get up from the table / sit out. You come back three hands later in time to be under the gun. You should never be charged anything extra because you haven't skipped paying anything.

It's only if you've actually missed paying a blind that you have to post when you get back (or continue to sit out until it's your big blind again).
