So iv just read that the rule of 4 and 2 is a way to calculate your equity and that anything over 50% is a high raise situation every time I always thought this rule was used to calculate your chance of receiving a possible out on the turn or river have I been an idiot and not realised that the 4 and 2 rule is really a way to calculate both :icon_pale

Hi.
I have never heard of this rule. Please tell me where exactly you read it, or if possible give me a link to this article.
Good luck.

The rule of 4 and 2 was written by Phil Gordon in his book "The Little Green Book"

It is a quick way of working out your percentage odds of completing your draw.

You multiply by 2 when you are on the flop waiting for 1 card, and the same on the turn waiting for the river card.

You only multiply by 4 when opponent is all in.

Flush draw: 9 outs * 2 = 18%
Straight draw: 8 outs * 2 = 16%
Two overcards: 6 outs * 2 = 12%
Two pair going for a full house: 4 outs * 2 = 8%
Flush draw, opponent is all in on flop: 9 outs * 4 = 36%
Straight draw, opponent is all in on flop: 8 outs * 4 = 32%

Just remember you will rarely multiply by 4

Hope this helps :)

Rule 4 and 2 (or rules 2 and 4, call it whatever you want) was invented by Phil Gordon in his book The Little Green Book, which, by the way, is a very good book on the strategy of playing unlimited Texas Hold'em.
