I have been having very good results in freeroll tournaments lately. In the last 7 days, I have had 2 1st place finishes and hit top ten in three others. It never fails that I end up losing my little bankroll in a cash game. My question is...

Are some people just better at tournaments and others at cash? Should I just use the money I have banked and play in some low buy in tournaments and try to grow it?

I really want to get a bigger bankroll so I can compete in some of the higher buy in tournaments.

As a tournament poker player myself, there is a distinct difference between Tournaments and Ring.

You seem to have some success playing tournaments, so I would focus on just playing tournaments with the small amount that you have made.

Here are the similarities on how you will succeed; you can sit and be patient, and get to know who is at your table. In position you can take advantage of certain players and increase your chip stack.

Here is the one difference which cause many(myself) to lose at cash. You sit and be patient, and you get it all in ahead on the flop or turn and you lose to a rivered flush or 2 outer. You then re-buy and don't play with patience and awareness. And it costs you another buy in.

You need to have the same approach every time you play. But, I do think you also need to have a higher cash game bankroll in order to play. Always buy in to a cash game with the maximum amount and be patient. (wait for someone else who is bringing there little winnings to the table just to double it up)

Imo stock to low buy in tourneys tilk you have enough for cash game
The diffrence is imo in tourneys you have to be choosing spots to steal and take bigger risks while kn cash your not being rushed to get what the other guy has so you can wait for a good spot to get what he has my tip is dont be afraid to lay a hand down when you think you are beat unless its like 11 to 1 odds and you think you might have a chance at winni b

Play more of what you enjoy more. As an entry level-player, it's way too early to be concerned about what form of poker will be most profitable for you over the long term, or about what to play to maximize your win rate at the moment.

I suggest you play some MTTs, some SNGs and some cash - enough of each to know which / how much of each you'd like to play.

It can't be proven absolutely, but it's not unreasonable to think you'll do best by focusing on whatever you enjoy most. And there's nothing to say you can't revisit your decision later on.

Post-flop play is more important in ring games.

I actually have done well at tourneys when I play them with FPPs but I really hate the feeling of sitting for 3 hrs and ending up with nothing, so I go with ring games.

Um I guess which ever one you feel comfortable with would probably be a good decision
