Was just curious what most think is the right playing style for both Sit and Go's and MTT(multi-table-tourneys)...Tight Aggressive? Loose Aggressive? Passive? Loose? I personally like the old tight is right strategy. Depending on the table and my stack is when I will switch it up a bit. Please poor in your thoughts and personal strategies approaching these two (MTT) & (SNG).

personally i play tight until stealing the blinds and antes becomes worthwhile, don't be too nitty though, during the early stages pick your spots, bet your premiums strong, set mine and play suited connectors when it's cheap enough.

Book line, its TA.

Since poker is situational, you have to adjust and adapt. Dont just stick to one personality.

Be aggressive when playing against limpers and play agressive with strong hands.. in early phases with not so strong hands like 47 you can try it and if you dont hit on flop - just check and if anyone raises - fold don't call it. In mid phase you have already some chips to spend but dont take unnecessary risks.. In late phase till the end of buble - play wisely and do anything to survive till money - you dont play it hours to burst out in the end of buble or early in money.. Saving chips is like winning chips - remind that.. and you should be fine :)

There is no "right" playing style. What is best against 1 particular player might not work against the next. In general if your playing against a bunch of loose players play tight, if playing against a bunch of tight players play looser. Being Aggressive is probably the only thing that could be considered the "right" playing style, though there might be situations where its not.

As always in poker it depends, and is situational.

This.

One of the major mistakes I see people doing is when they try to adapt to their opponents, they're overdoing it. Surely, if your opponent is tight, you can loosen up and add a couple of hands into your ranges, but that doesn't mean you should start playing junk, it will get you into some wierd spots. Same for the loose opponents, don't become a complete nit. Lastly, remember that you can use your table image for your own benefit.

I play Tight Aggressive in SNG's & MTT tourneys ...
The earlier phase of tourney , the more tight I play ;)

And ofc adjusting to my opponents , and play much wider range from position , and I don't play junk hands at all , except when I'm 10 BB and am push or fold. Then everything is possible :)

First no matter what style you choose , at least needs to be Aggressive.
Yes, you may win by playing passive
but Play aggressive gets you two ways to win
1st: win by a good hand to showdown
2nd, bluff let better hands to fold.

Therefore, No matter tight aggressive or loose aggressive, aggressive is the best.
personally, I like Ultra aggressive - Stu Ungar style.

I agree that in a tourney it's best to be aggressive. The idea being that its a pressure game. Also, you'll never win big pots by playing tight late in MTTs. A good rule is if you get called every time you bluff you're too loose, if you never get called too tight. Good luck.

it depends both can work very effectively, just play whichever one suits your style best, as a beginner i'd say work on your TAG game until you develop a bit more confidence and gain a better understanding for the game.

for Low limits and playing sng or small mtt.

I like to disguised in a style i feel is most profitable for me in whatever game i go into. I dont believe in the idea of playing tight aggressive or loose passive or anything people label it. It sounds a bit unorthodox and nitty, but if I was to play a certain way against an opponent who is trying to get me to play worse with bad cards or play great against bad players, im going to play real good with bad cards . I think the key is to focus on the blinds and not worry about placing for a finish.

So to say, i would think my style doesnt rely on a style, rather I just flow unaturally against a good or bad player and mix it up to where its decieving to even play against my action.

But if i played harder tournaments with bigger buy ins ,well then thats where i apply a strong style to keep a balance and maintain focus .

if i can limp in i do with almost anything if dont hit fold, dont get involved with speclative hands early on waisting chips, in s+gs it all happens when blinds are high, its all about getting itm,i see a lot going allinn and loosing half there stack on small and meduim pairs these imo should be folded round the bubble unless youve got a real healthy stack or a really low one.you might see board and think shit would of had that pot but it dosent matter just get itm, thats s+gs. Have to experiment a lot, try different things, see what works for you. There isn't any one style that is "correct", like there is in some other games :)

Your mindset is wrong , there is no best strategy , the best strategy is the one who counters the population tendecies , this could be 3-betting AA-QQ and stealing with 2-7o from the button , it could be anything really , you have to break down every aspect of the game and see how tight or loose you should be depending on the population.

All tables you play at are going to be different, sit back see how everyone is playing and then adjust your play, if its a very aggressive table try to wait for good hands and bet hard re raises etc... tight tables loosen up a little bit take a few more stabs at pots

At the start of the tournament I'm playing MTT carefully and strictly on a map in the middle of more actively and at the end of the push-fold.

TAG is always right. But you may also try LAG against TAG, super LAG against LAG, and small ball against super LAG. It actually just depends.
