If you have $ 10 it is stupid to enter a $ 10 tournament, so play tournaments of .10 and .25. Well there you can fight the variance by having enough game volume, which will dilute the bad beats that you eventually take (and believe you will take, no one is free of it).
Few players can raise the bankroll with little or no difficulty, most will "zero" a few times and have to deposit again.
Unfortunately it is part, one of the virtues in our sport is the patience and the ability to start over. If you missed the first 10 dollars. Start over. But before you give a review on your game, it will certainly improve something that will open the way on your next attempt.
So summarizing: Enjoy the promotions, choose your games well, respect your bankroll, have volume and patience.
If you can combine these items you will have a better chance of prospering, and soon you will be able to raise buy-ins and, perhaps, go far beyond what you imagined.
For beginners like me in poker, here I leave my first post in a small text about respecting our bankroll. THANKSS

Personally for myself, i could say that the bankroll is 100$ and above. But its very hard to get out there with a start of 20 or under.
I could not wait with 10 dollars for the next promotion and play only freerolls and saving those 10 for later. Im playing some low stake tables as you said, but in only on tables that im good, like cash tables with 6 people or zooms.
Im thinking that, building a good bankroll that could you could earn from it its hard and takes alot of time and patience to be done.
So good luck to all with building your bankrolls and spend their money won from their passion.
