I was thinking about getting a coach but do you think anyone who made over 50,000 on poker tournaments should be ok? I'm thinking of getting a Coach who has made over 200,000 on tournaments but hes expensive....

I take it your a member of MTT poker edge like myself? I don't think a coach is really worth it personally for MTTs. There is just so many videos on there you can watch that will enable you to gain a huge edge over most Micro Low and Mid stakes MTT regs and a slight edge over High stakes players.

The value of coaches is far more dependent on how well they communicate rather than on their winnings. And there's a personal element to this in terms of how well a particular coach's communication methods and style fit the way a particular individual takes in and processes information.

And if the figures are gross winnings, they don't factor in how much was paid in entries to win those amounts.

I agree with Arjonius. If you are going to get a coach, (obviously they will have to have success in their own right), but it's probably more important how well they communicate rather than their earnings.
In my opinion, you can learn how to do everything from the internet these days...

I couldn't disagree more. Learning from a good coach is way better than watching videos.

Agree

I never said coaches were totally useless. If you are venturing into high stakes MTTs then a coach could defiantly be of beneficial to yourself if you can find a good one that suits your needs as stated above. However, for micro and low stakes MTTs i think a coach is unnecessary as the games are ridiculously soft and easy to beat and even a halve decent MTTer can do well in that. Some people say the standard of play in Micro and low stakes MTTs has gotten better i believe it has gotten worse. I loaded up some micro MTTs today got dealt pocket AAs under the gun raise 5 times the big blind and get 8 callers. I can list more micro and low stake MTT outrageous plays but lets keep this thread on topic shall we.
