Hey y'all,
Just wondering ... I started playing play money poker & I find that since I subconsciously know it's not real money I find myself playing horrible! & some people play with playmoney to perfect their game "" Do you see any use in playing with play money?? Or see any truth to the latter perspective?

The game for virtual money is very different from the game for real money.

If you play for virtual money it will be very difficult then to switch to a game with real money and it would be very difficult to make the right decisions.

When people will shove with any hand, the chances of learning to play better in cash games are probably slim.

I feel like play money is okay if you just want to have fun and enjoy yourself. If you're genuinely looking to improve your game however I don't feel like play money is a real representation of poker as people play with less care.

So for those comment
yes, play money and real money are different zones
but
I would say, generally play money are full of bad players, so if you are unable to win at play money table, you will never win at real money table.

Yes, but being able to crush at a play money table is not (in any way) an indication that you will be a winning player at real money games. There are several habits that you will develop that will usually be profitable at play money (value betting really light, calling down really light, not bluffing appropriately against weak ranges, limping and calling too wide preflop, etc.), but these habits will be huge leaks in a real money game where people aren't shoveling money in as light.

yes, crushing at play money table at least qualifies player to play for the win in the real money poker world.

besides, I don't think the habbits at play money will last that long for playing at real money table.

one of the good merit for good poker player is able to learn and improve his/her game.

so in the play money table, he may play like a rock but the real money table play like a decent lag.

and using range A for play money when facing VPIP 40+, and using range B against VPIP 25 regs.

don't think it is huge problem there.

I enjoy playing with play money but it doesn't really help to better your game because you take more risks with play money. I find I can try a lot of different games with play money that I don't know the rules and it does not really matter because it is play money.

Playing with play money is a good way to practice your poker skill without the risk of losing real money. But the drawback here is that since there are no risk of losing real money, the correct way of playing is more often than not gets neglected. Players here will most likely shove all the time praying for luck, and this is not a good practice for you.
I guess it is better to play freerolls with real money and hope to get ITM and use the money won to play other real money games.

do yourself a favor and try to find some freeroll games to get better practice. When people have the chance to build a bankroll on freeroll games they tend to play a little closer to real poker as if they were paying.

you cant learn by playing with fake money, you have to play freerolls or micro stakes to begin to apply the knowledgment you get on coachs and books (even in lowest stakes sometimes you cant apply some types of strategies cause you just cant bluff against who is not paying atention)

I used to practise with the play money games for sit n goes and mtts , now I have stopped this , I know the best way to learn is to study (threads , articles , videos , etc ) and to play for real money .

But for fun , to relax sometimes when I cannot (tilt, moodetc) play real money games , I play some beat the clock or rarely turbo mtts/hu , only for fun :)

I don't see play money as having significant benefit to your game. I generally just use it as something to do to unwind after a long day when I do not have the energy or patience to play real money games so I just play play money to not risk anything!

Play money poker is not an indicator of success in real money poker at all. You learn bad habits at play money that inhibit your development as a player

Yea I wouldn't be able to play for play money. I'd call every raise...

Why don't you play the freerolls where you have the potential to earn real cash?
