Recommended book for learning the maths

Not great at maths ! But is there a book that explains it clean and clearly ?

Check out the strategy articles! There is a poker odds for dummies guide in there which is very good!

You dont need a book to learn maths in Poker. there's alot article n strategy abt pot odds. u juz need the basic will do.. u dont haf to learn everything at once.. if u face a donk, all maths is wrong.... unless u going at higher level, maths is impt...

Please stop your ridiculous abbreviations, your abbreviations like haf and juz are making it alot harder to read. Please every one lets just stick to normal abbreviations, CardsChat is not an SMS message, so there is no need to type like it is.

The best books I've found are Harrington on holdem, and it's not even close. As a pro, I recommend them to anyone who wants to get into the game.

As for the OP. I have two great books for you, one for if you are ok with numbers, and one for if you are great with numbers.

If you are just so-so with numbers, I strongly recommend Killer Poker By The Numbers and/or Tournament Killer Poker By The Numbers by Tony Guerrera. They are both great books and put learning the math into simple and easy(er) to remember applications that most I have read elsewhere.

The book for if you are a math whiz would be The Mathematics of Poker by Bill Chen. This is a book that I have not personally read, because I am not smart enough at math to get anything out of this. This book has pretty much all of the math you would ever need to know about when it comes to poker.

So it's your choice, how good do you think you are

By the way, the Harrington on Hold'em Series, while a very good series, doesn't really have anything to do with poker math. So much for being a "pro".

I haven't read the poker math book by Bill Chen, but my understanding is that if you are truly interested in this aspect of the game, it's second to none.

You can still get a lot from it even if you just assume that the math is accurate and read the conclusions they draw based on that math.

In all honesty though, pretty much all the math you need to use is in the first 50 pages of HoH Cash Vol 1. You will also find the math behind much of poker in No Limit Hold'em Theory and Practice by Sklansky and Malmuth. Finally, Professional No Limit Hold'em also contains solid maths behind the pokers. I have all of these, and each is good in it's own unique way. I'd take the other two over Harrington though, as his very game theory based play is neat, it is not necessary at the limits most of us play.

I am great at math. It was my fav. subject at school but,i I think useing it in poker would take the fun out of poker for me. It would make it a numbers game for me thats not why I play poker.

I'm going to have to say not this for the OP. I have it (and a degree in math) and it's a serious dive into the mathematics behind poker. The sort of math you're looking for, they gloss over in the first few pages and then rapidly go a lot deeper. I'm not putting the book down at all. Personally, I think it's THE poker math book, but it's not the one to start with.

I'm going to pass on a specific rec, other than to say I have Collin Moshman's SnG book (highly recommended, if NLHE SnGs are your thing), Harrington's tournament books, Professional No Limit Holdem Vol 1, and maybe half a dozen or so more. You might take a look at Professional No Limit Holdem. One mistake I've made you might want to watch out for is flipping through something in the book store and deciding it looks good, then getting home and realizing it only covers limit. I don't play limit. Telling me to bet doesn't help. How much?!?

Got to agree with Royal Fish, neither of my degrees is in maths but I consider myself to have pretty strong numeracy skills

I got the Mathematics of Poker last year for Christmas , I found it exciting and interesting in the early stages but just found myself having to go back and reread the early chapters over and over to move on through the book.

In the end I read it through but in all honesty I didnt fully understand it towards the end ,

I found winning at low limit poker (Lee Jones?) good for understanding the maths but clearly this is a limit rather than no limit book
