I'm mostly just curious as to how most of you factor rebuys and add-ons into your bankroll management strategies. I just assume that I am going to add-on, but never re-buy and figure this into my buy-in. Additionally I have heard many theories on how much of your bankroll you should be willing to invest in an individual tournament. No idea which is actually right. I try not to invest more than 5% into any event, but feel this might be high. I feel like bankroll management is probably as important as any other factor in making poker profitable and am interested in reading what the poker minds here have to write about it.

RB/A MTTs can be a bit tricky for BRM because it's impossible to tell how many re-buys you may use if you don't set yourself a limit. A stricter BRM plan is definitely better when it comes to these games.

Standard MTT BRM is 100 buy-ins and the same can be applied to RB/A MTTs, except that buy-in will have to be divided into 3 parts depending on how many bullets you want to commit to the game: Initial buy-in, # of Re-buys, and Add-on.

For example, lets say you have a $200 bankroll. So, you can play $2 MTTs according to standard BRM. Now, lets say that when it comes to RB/A's, you only want to do:
-Initial buy-in
-1 Re-buy
-Add-on

This means that for a $200 BR, you can comfortably play .66 RB/A's with this plan.

What if your plan is:
-Initial buy-in + immediate re-buy
-Double re-buy (if knocked out)
-Add-on

Here, you're using a potential 5 buy-ins (potential because you may not have to use the double rebuy). With a $2 buy-in max, you can comfortably play .40 RB/A MTTs and follow standard BRM.

Most importantly, not to do more than planned rebuys. I do not invest more than 3% in one tournament. My rule is 1 rebuy, 1 add-on. In half of the cases, I do not buy more chips. In the remaining half of the half I don't do rebuys, wait till the add-onn, or leaving the tournament.
3% of the bankroll I'm only putting in 25% of cases.
I do not single out these tournaments in a separate category.

Some players make do with less, but if you want to be absolutely safe with your bankroll, you should have 500 buy-ins for MTTs. For re-entries or rebuy/add-ons you should consider the buy-in 5x as much as it is. For example, for a $1.10 MTT, consider the buy-in $5.50. Remember, give the high variance in MTTs it is expected that you will cash only 10% of the time and finish in the top 3 places only 1% of the time.
