Thoughts?

I'm new to online poker but Ive. Noticed that play money isn't a good way to learn strategy for new players because you have the people that go all in no matter their hand because they don't really care about the outcome. If you really want to learn the game your better off going with real money site or playing live tables.

In order to study poker, I always advise freerolls, they do not need money, and at any moment you can disassemble your game and see the result):ciao:

Play money/freerolls will not help you become a better player.

Yes, you can build a bankroll playing them but don't get used to the play you see in them because when you start playing for real money the competition will be much better.

Sure there are some fish swimming at all levels but in freerolls/play money most people aren't really playing their A game.

I disagree that play money games aren't useful learning tools for beginners. Obviously they're not a big draw for the pros or regulars, but that's a good thing for beginners.

A lot of players are Americans, some of whom are quite good, who can't play real money, or choose not to play real money. I've seen much better skill in some (not all) play money games than I've seen in most freerolls.

PLUS, if you don't have a real bankroll, you really can't afford to ignore this free opportunity. If nothing else, it allows you to gain familiarity with the game, platform, different player styles, etc.

Seconded. Avoid "play money," but Freerolls are definitely worthwhile practice. Just don't get too ****y when you starting winning them.

Skip free play learn from tourneys and live..

Only play free tables if you are a true beginner at the game. Free-roll tourneys, you can learn how these function; there are some all ins, but that is part of free-roll structure. If you play higher quality free-rolls, Cards-chat, for example, there is much more to it,tactics, etc. You will learn more playing against good players; you see how they took you out in a certain scenarios, etc. You get tired of losing the same way, adapt and change; grow as a player.
When you have the tourneys down pat, proceed to live play, a related, but different animal than tourney play.

I totally agree with you, there are few that will be willing to learn through play money, but there are to many players playing very loose that it becomes upseting while playing.

Well i think if you don't know nothing about the game or the kind of the game (K.O, spin and go, sit and go, etc) play money is really useful to get familiar with.
But to master the game they really don't count, freerolls from Cardchat are great to try your strategies and game style plus the majority of players take them seriously the tournaments aren't turbo so you can take your time to get best of your game with no rush (see the calendar to play All member). Good luck, cheers !

Learn to play poker with real money

You are totally right! with play money all of the players go all in with every hand they get because it is just fun for then and they don't really care about learn and improve their game and I tell you that because I have been through that if you wanna learn to play poker with play money I recomend some sit and go or something like that.

play with real money if you wanna learn but play very carefully and try to study a lot before you play and do your best.

I think play money ring games are good games to learn poker most of the time. They actually care about the game more then people who play free roles or even mirco tournaments.

Free roles you get people who enter but don't want to play along time so they don't care. They just see big prize

Ring play money obviously have a different mind set

Play money is garbage. Players will always push all-in with bad cards just to take ur chips. You cant learn poker or build up any strategies just like that. Better to play freerolls 1-2 times per day instead of spending hours on playmoney.

That's contradiction too me. You say don't spend a hour or two on play money instead play 5 or more hours on free roles. They pushing in with bad cards and taking your chips? Another contradiction unless they can out play you with bad cards. There all in pre flop happens more on free roles and on mirco bountys

Poker is a game for real money. It is better to play freerolls than play money.

I really find no use for play money games. There are more than enough freerolls out there that play closer to a real game because there is an actual prize of value that people are trying to win. I would start there to learn the very basics like hand selection, position and such.

If you truly want to learn and develop a true poker game, it comes at buyin or cash games.

On microlimits (cache games, MTT, SNG), many players do not take seriously the play money. If we consider high limits on play money, the game of poker here is not inferior to real money.

Absolutely agree, I think freerolls in the late stage even has a good level of play because only skillful players stay.

I also think its does not help your game to play without real money because half the table at online games will just go all in on every hand. But if you can find a game without real money where people play actually good (for example: a game with your friends who enjoy the game) then i think you can learn the game without real money.

Play money is only good if you're learning the mechanics of poker, don't try to analyse a spot in play money people just go nuts in them. Start with Freerolls to get some kind of bankroll going or make a small deposit and play micro tournaments. Once you establish your bankroll you can begin moving up in stakes.

Hi.
I agree with you. I also think it is best to immediately learn to play real money. These may be tournaments with a minimum buy-in or even freerolls.

Haha play money it bad but freeroles and small buy in for pennys is good ok. People can go nuts and make bluff in them too, but maybe you like it when you think everyone plays the same.

This is a valueble post for me. I started on PS a month back with 10000 chips, now i have 1.7 million. At night I started dreaming about 10K became $1.7 million. Then the alarm woke me up and I had to leave for work and made me thinking...

It's good to know real money and playmoney are 2 different things.

Just posted in another play money/real money thread. To each his own. Play money is where I learned the basics of poker and that ABC poker was the best way for me to build a play money bankroll. Besides finally buying some poker books and reading strategy articles, bankroll management has been a staple of my success. That was learned playing poker stars play money in '05-'06.
