Ive been playing poker my entire life and just recently took an interest in learning the game more in depth. Ive been playing on carbon poker playmoney tounement tables to practice my skills and I constantly finish in the top three. I play in freerolls and do well except theres to many Donks and players who dont take it serious to weed through. Now I know real cash games are totally different. But I feel Ive done enough research and homework to play real money games. What if if anything should I consider or ask mysel before I make the jump?

You cannot get a realistic evaluation of your poker skills from the play tables. What works there will NOT, repeat NOT work at the real money tables. Having played for years, you probably have a fair assesement of your abilities, use that & not your play money experience. There is a wealth of information & advice, as well as a bunch of friendly helpful folks on this forum that can help you succeed, have a look around & feel free to ask any questions. Good luck & welcome to the forum.

Go for it and see how it goes imo. You'll never know if you don't try. Expect the games to be considerably tougher

Yea get to it for sure. Just throw a few bucks on any site and try it out. Nothing that will bother you to lose and then just look at it as an entertainment expense if you bust.

Since you'll be starting as a recreational player, think of poker like a hobby. In most cases, hobbies cost money. The analogy doesn't apply long-term since you want to start making money within a reasonable amount of time, but during the beginner / early learning period, you can treat it like a hobby in terms of deciding how much you're willing to spend (this can be per week, per month, a flat amount or whatever), and don't go over.

Do funsteps. Stage 1 and 2 are filled with terrible players but step 3 can actually test your abilities.

Play money = worthless practice

Nothing teaches you like playing for money. All you need now is many, many hands played.

Try playing some freerolls in the private tournaments part of carbon. You can build a bankroll from these and see how well you do against good players.

I know a lot of people say that play money is nothing like real money but I have to say that at higher levels of play money can be about the same as micro stakes. The reason being these are the players that have spent a lot of time playing and I think also some of them used to play real money and now just don't want to anymore or can't.

Play the correct game and learn about the people you are playing with. That is what beats poker.

I say drop 50 bucks in and see where it goes. Good turnout: you turn it into a nice BR and get to keep enjoying real money poker. Bad turnout: you lose 50 bucks and go back to what you already found joy in (play money). 50 aint all that much and itll give you an idea of if you can pull it off.

Give it a shot, like someone said you'll know soon enough. I use to think I was an above average player, and maybe I was at Micro stakes. Then I moved up some and found out I didn't have the skill to play at this new level. So I moved back down and just grind at the lower stakes. Make a small profit every month. Good luck.
