Hi all

New player. Big sports bettor, learnt to code and know my probabilities. If I’d have known everything I know now before I started sports betting I’d have saved a lot of my expensive education. Don’t want to repeat that mistake with poker.

I want to use EV & math from the beginning. Am already comfortable with outs but having trouble understanding EV: https://www.cardschat.com/poker-odds-expected-value.php. I don’t know how to estimate an opponents ranges and/or guesstimate the types of hands they will play.

My problem is I started on Bet365 so no pokertracker, can’t look at opponents stats. What I struggle with is how are you supposed to assume and estimate – on the fly – their ranges. How do you guys do it w/o stats or in live games?

Thanks

EDIT: any links to help would be appreciated!

Using poker tracker is not needed. You just need to realty concentrate on the table and estimate the amount of hand the players are playing. Then use something like poker strategy equlab. add hands until you get say 10%, 20% and 30% of hand you can play. You now know what hands would be in each of those ranges. If you think the guy is raises about 10% of hands he would play AA to 77- Aks to A9s, KQs-KTs QJ and QTs and AK-AJo and KQo, This would give you an idea of the ranges they are raising with and would help you in starting to put them on ranges.

Thanks for the reply, very informative.

For a beginner like me to use this I think i'll have to stick to one table at at time and just use the old pen and paper to get used to practicing.
