There are three different types of reading in poker, The first is to buy a good book by an established poker player and learn from him. The second is to read the flop, turn and river commonly known as the board. Practice on your own, deal out hands and figure out all the combination of hands that can be made from the cards shown. The third is to read your opponents (tells). Study the players you are up against, look for little idiosyncracies, watch their body language if you are live, the time they take to bet. You will soon find out a whole lot about them.

That's it, I fully agree I still think we always have to have a little luck on our side and if online is more difficult to identify. But the practice is the best training and learning.

Someone needs to publish a book and call it 'how to read in poker'. People are gonna be so confused :p

I would add one more Rigor Mortis. Learn to read yourself. Just because you have what you consider to be a style that you play, the way the table plays may be giving a different read to your opponents. You be a tight player, but hit a run of cards and everyone thinks you are some loose maniac raising all the time. Be aware of what your opponents think of you how they interpret your actions.

I personally opened for reading at the poker table! when I have AA on hand, I can not hide my joy! Probyval front of the mirror to sit and control their emotions! No work!
