I'm curious to know how much time people spend studing, reading books/forum posts etc in relation to time they spend playing? ie one hour studying for every hour playing

Since poker games typically take longer for my eyes to get tired than reading CardschatForums or any other forums, I guess I play a lot more than I try to learn (time-wise).

For me, it's probably 2-1 playing-studying.

i think for every, 2 hours of play, a player should spend 1 hour reviewing hands, watching videos and learning new concepts

I think you will find everybody is different and prepars differently. Personally I think once you understand the basics you learn a lot from playing. However once you improve that is when I think videos and books can be a great help. Do what is right for you.

I just started to review hands before and after I have finished playing and I must none, matching what I do to reading what I should not do has helped me plug many-a-leaks in my game.

I find myself thinking "WHY did you call with THAT" to myself....

I have never read a poker book, you're going to have multiple suggstions that could be complete opposites given as advice. I just try to read a little on the forum and play poker to learn.

Yeah, and your point beeing?
Poker books arnt meant to be a 100% formula to the only way to play but rather examinations of difrent theorys on comon and un-comon situation that might arise at the table and what the highest ev+ play might be in those situation as well as intrutuctions to difrent thought processes you then adjust to your own game.

Different ratios work better for different people.

Some people are more practical learners, and learn best from 'doing' (i.e actually playing poker). Others are more visual learners and learn better from books. That's not so say that one medium should be completely neglected though of course.

I need some help here, please. I understand this bit (I think):

but the bit I am not so sure about is this:
and I must none,
:questionm:questionm:questionm
you're going to have multiple suggstions that could be complete opposites given as advice
I read all sorts of advice on poker forums and in books, I take the bits that seem useful to me and integrate them into my game. There is no magic formula for poker, the game is far too complex for that, but if you don't ever read any poker books then I think you might be missing out.

It all depends on the way you learn the best. Some people can read something and can then apply it, while some need to see things in action. Try figure out your learning style and just work away at it. For me I do a mix of everything I can, I am always reading at least one book. I read them when I can. I play as often as I can, and when I am done with sessions I try to spend some time reviewing what went on and how I played. Self critique can be a powerful tool.

My strategy is to keep a balance between reading and playing.
70% Play
20% Read
10% Pray ( to the poker Gods and the Queen of Luck)

Reading as I Playing:
I do a lot of reading if I'm down to playing only 2 Tournaments at a time.
60% Play
20% Read
20% Pray ( to the Poker Gods and the Queen of Luck)

What the heck if praying to the Poker Gods and the Queen of Luck works I am in on that.

There is no teacher as good as experience itself. Although sites like this one truly can help you, i say just play a lot of hands and get your own feel on how to play then add slowly other aspects of startagies you pick up
