Rake is how poker sites make money. On all sites, the formula on how they take rake is clearly posted. I'd suggest you contact support on whatever site you play on and ask for clarification on how they go about calculating rake. Do you expect them to let you play for free?

It's the same thing as taxes. Do you complain about taxes too? It's how poker sites are able to operate.

this is the ****ing stupidest thread ever

my vote is for the +/- EV emoticon one.

rake is nothing like taxes. rake is a very reasonable 4 to 5 percent most places and allows us to play these fabulous games with a low takeout and if you are good enough you can still make money while essentially then paying for the online service that provides it out of your profit. it's a nice deal really. compare it to horseracing here in the states for example where takeout is close to 20%.

taxes are a lot closer to rape really, only in a metaphorical sense of course, in that you lose 50% of your hard work to overbloated bureaucrats who then use the $ to have agencys where they can figure out ways to overregulate and make free enterprise more difficult, as if the taxation rape of 50 plus percent isn't enough. Ive heard they use some of the money for good things also, like giving to people who don't have jobs so they can continue to not have a job, or give to people with "disabilities" who are able to work, or allow a woman to continue having babies w/o coming up with an income to support them, or to need to be married to the father who would need to have an income to support them. So i suppose they do some good with those tax dollars.

Anyways, I think rake,by comparison, is generally very reasonable and a great way for online poker to remain a profitable business and provide opportunity for good poker players.

thanks for the clarification some of you.i wouldn't have posted if i already knew what rake was.so now i know i would say that its not unreasonable that they make money so if this is the way they do that fine .it seems a little high to me but ill live and to the ones this post seems to have upset, i hope you don't tilt this easily when you play. P.S.i play at Sportsbook based on the ranking and review this site gave.

The rake is more important now than ever because everybody and their mother knows some nominal amount about poker (NLHE in particular). This means that the edges are smaller and the rake is much higher relative to how much you make.

I didn't mean they are absolutely identical in any sense. I meant that they are both necessary for normal function in their respective arenas.

If the rake is like taxes, I guess freerolls, bonuses, and giveaways are the income tax returns...
